Troubled Sleep

There’s an ugly confrontation between the father and daughter on the doorstep that evening. Zedadias is upset by Kev’s comments about Alice, and about him, but not once does either party invite him to join the conversation.

Alice is invited to stay the night again. Kev seems to believe this invitation is extended to him as well, and he sleeps on the sofa.

Despite being given the spare bed, Alice doesn’t sleep properly, and only snatches a few hours on top of the covers.

She gains a scowl on her face when she finds Kev hasn’t magically disappeared by the morning. Despite her displeasure, she starts preparing some food for him. She isn’t very hungry herself, but her father is still starving.

Zedadias does not seem to share her pity.

wow an early one today, thanks very much lol – love Zebs expression!

    • 2 katiegirl1996 July 9, 2009 at 3:55 pm

Omg! i just thought of something, that simbol above his head isn’t one i’ve seen before…there’s “a wee bit peckish”, then “hungry” maybe he’s about to die from starvation! :O

      • 3 bamff123 July 9, 2009 at 4:02 pm

nah it just means he’s starving, and if he doesn’t get food soon only then will he die.

      • 4 Jeniveve July 9, 2009 at 9:53 pm

I think it’s a more “Ok this is the last straw,BITCH – give me noms, now!

      • 5 Taupe July 9, 2009 at 11:37 pm

that would explain why, despite hating him, alice is cooking for him, since she is good hearted and wont let someone die, no matter what.

      • 6 Vodhozk July 9, 2009 at 11:47 pm

He’s not gonna die, unfortunately. I think I’ve said this before, but you get a 2 and 1/2 to 3 days before you actually die, which can be sad if you’re on a budget, and hilarious if your not, as I keep them in bed in a room with no doors, and even no space around the bed. And it doesn’t even matter who it is; when someone (in your household) in the Sims dies, everyone (in said household) mourns for 2 days, even Evil sims/enemies. So unless Alice moves out without Kev, she’ll morn her fathers passing, and so will anyone else foolish enough to live with them.

    • 7 Idiothunter July 9, 2009 at 4:14 pm

I love how people still call them by the wrong names, “Zeb” and “Alex.”

I mean…how many hundreds of times have their names been read by you?

      • 8 Grey Sky (My Actual Name) July 9, 2009 at 5:15 pm

lmao. nice name for your comment. cuz ur hunting idiots and then you found a couple

        the Zeb and Alex mispronouncers….lol

okay i’m going to shut up now.

um Zed, you should kick Kev out…it’s crazy that Alice still manages to make food for Kev after he cussed her out….she got life messed up!

        i wouldn’t do….CRAP!

        -Grey Sky

      • 9 Maddi July 9, 2009 at 6:17 pm

It won’t let me reply to you, Grey Sky, so I’ll just reply to this post.

You forget that Alice has the Good trait! No matter how terrible someone is, she still realizes that she can’t just let any human being, let alone the man that fathered her (no matter how terrible he was at the job), suffer and starve to death.

      • 10 Casey July 9, 2009 at 10:53 pm

Yea Maddi, I was thinking that too. I heard that song “If today was your last day” by Nickelback and couldnt help but think about Alice (of all things a SIM). I guess when she was broke and starving and yet still donated her money, related to the song.

        I love the Sims!

      • 11 Mason July 10, 2009 at 1:47 am

        good point, idiothunter

      • 12 Narya July 10, 2009 at 5:50 am

I do apologise if you’re not sure who I meant by “Zeb”. I would have thought it was obvious but I’ll make sure to be far more accurate in the future.

      • 13 Professor July 11, 2009 at 12:03 am

@Idiothunter: Though your own use of the passive construction leaves something to be desired. Glasshouse, Stonethrower.

    • 14 Cheyenne July 10, 2009 at 2:48 am

      is Zeb a NPC??

  2. 15 jess n. July 9, 2009 at 11:03 am

aw alice is so nice. its good she still cares about her evil father.

    • 16 Rachel July 9, 2009 at 1:35 pm

It’s not good, it’s nice and her actions stem from her goodness trait. She should probably not be so good to her father, but it’s nice of her to be.

And kev isn’t evil, her only has the insane and inappropriate traits, and he hates children, but already has an enemy relationship with her father, so that’s why they still hate each other…

I wonder if alice would even be sad if her father died… probably yes because of her goodness.

      • 17 katiegirl1996 July 9, 2009 at 3:51 pm

yea, sims get sad even when the sim that died was a sim they didn’t know… my sim went to the graveyard an started bawling at a grave of someone he didn’t even know!

      • 18 Parsnip July 9, 2009 at 3:53 pm

Yes. Because of the game mechanics, she’d be thrown into mourning for two days, and randomly cry for some time after.

      • 19 Brytni July 9, 2009 at 4:40 pm

in sims 2 if you had an enemy they actually wanted them to die, one of the wants that showed up were “see the ghost of __” and that person was still alive. but in sims 2 unfortanetly its not as funny and they get sad over anyone.

      • 20 Brytni July 9, 2009 at 4:41 pm

        lol i meant sims 3

      • 21 Jeepjeepcat July 10, 2009 at 7:33 am

The Kev I installed in my game died yesterday after making it to 90. Alice has been randomly crying and gets a negative thought bubble with Kev and the Grim Reaper in it. Even though they were enemies she’s still upset.

My simmie read Kev’s death announcement in the newspaper, it said he led a life full of love…. I think they had the wrong Kev.

  3. 22 sodasippa July 9, 2009 at 11:03 am

    Awesome!

  4. 23 Shira Amit July 9, 2009 at 11:03 am

    Cool 2nd comment
    I love these stories
I still don’t understand why Alice is nice to Kev
If I was her I’d make him bad food or something!

    • 24 katiegirl1996 July 9, 2009 at 3:52 pm

technically they can’t make bad food unless they have little or no cooking “skills”…which she does ,,, but they can’t make bad or good food on purpose..it just depends on how well they can cook.

  5. 25 Emily July 9, 2009 at 11:20 am

Lmao Kev looks like a lost puppy with the puppy dog eyes, and Zed looks like a scrunting pig, pushing his nose up to Kev as if to say “up yours ***hole”

Thanks for the early one mate (Y)

  6. 26 kansine July 9, 2009 at 11:22 am

LOL, this is the best “Kev seems to believe this invitation is extended to him as well”!!! XD XD XD To be honest, a while ago this story wasn’t really so inresting as it used to be, but now it’s awesome again! Maybe it makes the story the best when both Alice and Kev are around, plus someone else! That means drama! 😀 Great work, thanks for writing this!

  7. 27 justadreame July 9, 2009 at 11:24 am

Wow, I just can’t get over how much emotion the sims now show! I can’t wait to get my Sims 3 game. 🙂 Great job on the story so far! I’m hooked. 🙂

  8. 28 Jackrabbit July 9, 2009 at 11:26 am

Alice, sweetheart, listen carefully. Beat the crap out of the elderly, smelly man. Now.

    • 29 Rain July 9, 2009 at 5:51 pm

rotfl Jack! Nice one, I agree and I think Zed should kick Kev’s sorry butt out! It would be nice to see him squirm and sweat mwahaha!

  9. 30 Emily July 9, 2009 at 11:28 am

    Lol @ Jack

  10. 31 Jazmeister July 9, 2009 at 11:28 am

He’ll die soon enough. Why did he wander out in the middle of nowhere, actually?

  11. 34 Clary July 9, 2009 at 11:53 am

haha Zed looks like cyclops from X-men!!

  12. 37 Ryann Woods July 9, 2009 at 11:53 am

    Good ol’ Kev

  13. 38 fingirl12 July 9, 2009 at 11:58 am

i love your work! continue! haha i wonder how in the world you’re going to end a masterpiece like this! haha CONTINUE, please!

  14. 39 Swirlypepper July 9, 2009 at 11:58 am

You know, it’s very very sweet of Alice to still be looking out for him. At the end of the day he is her dad and is crazy and needs help. Clearly it’s too much to ask of a teen who’s living out of bins but asking an adult child who has access, at least temporarily, to shelter is NOT too much. It’s a scenario a lot of adults face when their parents succumb to dementia, it makes them mean and hard to live with but they have to look after them anyway. They put up with the shouting and abuse and rely on friends to boost them up, I think it’s great Alice is still sweet to him, especially in a world without nursing homes.

  15. 41 Simon July 9, 2009 at 12:04 pm

Any chance of some videos? The story is so compelling in pictures, but sometimes I want to see the full interactions. Fraps is a pretty cheap little program that can do video capture.

    • 42 Jacob July 9, 2009 at 12:28 pm

Actually you can capture video in-game with its own video camera.

And man, I really hope Zed can find the heart to let Alive live with him. Not Kev though, he can die in the streets for all I care.

    • 43 Mary July 10, 2009 at 7:40 am

the Sims 3 has it’s own video capture option.

  16. 44 Virgil July 9, 2009 at 12:33 pm

Like many many others I’ve been loving this story. My only gripe is the entire thing does shine specific lights on specific people. For one of them hunger is weakness, rejection is expected, and the only positive tones are pity; for the other hunger and rejection is some undeserved travesty, and positive lights are being a shining form of morality and ignorant innocence. That may be exaggerating, but my point is they seem kind of flat and it sort of breaks immersion. I hear more about how any of her bad manners are excused from ignorance, than the obvious rejections by all other that truly isn’t his fault. Seems like this is a young girls view on the story.

Don’t get me wrong, this is amazing; applying a sort of real feel and context to the actions of the game in order to make a flowing story is fun to read on so many levels. The fact the other characters have their own context that exists separate from the main adds to immersion. Even Zeb and his silly clothes feel well in place in a living town. I really can’t wait to see how you’ll handle the rest of the game considering that a lot of appeal is found in being homeless. More power to you.

    • 45 Laur July 9, 2009 at 5:07 pm

Wow, that was really touching. And you’re right, too. People I know think that’s something I would say. So complex, just like life itself. So poetic, like the mysteries of the universe. The truth, as if *God’s* light came shining down upon your soul as you typed. Amazing. Truly amazing, Virgil.

(The star * means any God/Gods/Goddess/Goddesses of any religion/religions anybody might have. And if you don’t believe in the afterlife, well, I don’t know what to say.)

“People I know think that’s something I would say. So complex, just like life itself. So poetic, like the mysteries of the universe.” Pretentious much?

      • 48 heartsmoney July 9, 2009 at 10:11 pm

Could you be any more full of yourself?

      • 49 Virgil July 10, 2009 at 7:37 am

Well thanks, I was actually expecting someone to be more bothered by what I said since so many people preach the “Kev is evil”.

Though I’m full blown atheist I appreciate the comment, though a little generous.

      • 50 Laur July 10, 2009 at 4:14 pm

Sorry, Andrew Green. Probably is a pompous kind of response. That’s just how I articulate sometimes. I must seem like a freak. I’m only a twelve year old girl and I verbalize words in such a comportment. I apologize, for those of the negligible psyche, if I am confusing or in any way ostentatious.

And sorry to Virgil, about the *God* thing. Would it be better if I said, you had a brilliant epiphany in which only words could speak the truth of which you felt?

But, as I was so saying, I do agree in every way about how this story is written. Not in any of the character’s points of view, or POV, but in a way that maybe Robin Burkinshaw can relate. It was written with the understanding that it may be in fact Alice’s POV. Robin has the journalistic freedom to make it however she/he wants. But, she/he started going in a different direction, so that it seemed more of an outsider’s view, as ours is. Maybe she/he had a rough upbringing, so she/he says this in a way to make Kev look like the desperado. In a way that most people would understand, so in doing so, it creates the notion that as Virgil would put it, “written by a young girl; sort of projecting frustration that most kids feel.” In any way, it helps people not only comprehend, but relate to, and feel a real connection.

It is a wonderful story, in addition to being created through a video game. There are some points, however, that need to be brought to RoBurky’s attention.

    • 51 Maddox July 10, 2009 at 9:09 am

This is written much too academically for this blog. However, you do bring up an interesting point. But aren’t all stories biased depending on their POV?

If this was written from the point of view of Kevin, you might see a completely different and sympathetic portrayal of a tragic man. His own backstory is marked by pain and suffering. Hungry, hapless, and insane, he can’t relate to others in a way he desperately needs to… complicated by a mind that won’t let him get his thoughts right. He is shunned by all and help the horrible paranoia in his head.

      • 52 Virgil July 10, 2009 at 9:51 am

but that’s my point exactly, I understand this isn’t from a character’s POV, but instead a general observation with some journalistic liberties. For the record it doesn’t seem like Alice’s point of view; instead, like I said, seems as if written by a young girl; sort of projecting frustration that most kids feel.

  17. 53 K-B3LLA July 9, 2009 at 12:36 pm

Alice has such a good heart, when she grows up she’ll be a terrific mother showering her kids with the love she never got.

  18. 55 Mr Gray Tiger July 9, 2009 at 12:41 pm

I’m suprised she cooked him breakfast. I would have just kicked that mean old smelly man out of the house! (Even though it’s not hers)

  19. 56 Jacklyn July 9, 2009 at 1:02 pm

Why Alice don’t wanna take a bath??

    • 57 Lobster July 9, 2009 at 3:23 pm

After years of not bathing, Alice has developed a protective coating over her entire body, much like the slime on a fish. If she removes it, she will leave herself open to infections by fungus, bacteria and parasites.

Once she moves in with Zeddy and can rely on additional showers to protect her health, she will probably feel more comfortable with the prospect of removing it.

Coming out of her shell, if you will.

      Her disgusting, stinky, mucous shell.

  20. 60 Kathersha July 9, 2009 at 1:17 pm

This was the perfect scenario to show the difference between Alice and Kev. When Kev woke up and found Alice sleeping on a park bench next to him, he yelled at her. When Alice woke up and found Kev sleeping on her friend’s couch, she made breakfast for him, even thought he had yelled at her just hours before.

    • 61 Rachel July 9, 2009 at 1:40 pm

That’s right. And it’s because Alice is almost too terrific to believe that she is just a conglomerate of pixels and codes…

      • 62 Jackrabbit July 9, 2009 at 1:59 pm

But when she does realize that, she’ll become ‘The One’, able to control this world, manipulate it on a whim. And I fully expect that when this does happen, she’ll turn the crotchety old bastard into a duck.

      • 63 Scherazade July 9, 2009 at 2:25 pm

Great comment about Alice and this blog’s ongoing transcendence!

  21. 64 thumbbook July 9, 2009 at 1:23 pm

They really have become more than just characters of the game. Im glad Kev is still alive. Alice shows such compassion for a father who treated her so bad, she really is special.

  22. 65 A-Sha July 9, 2009 at 1:57 pm

Zed’s facial expression is priceless ❤ Love it xD

  23. 68 Sims July 9, 2009 at 1:59 pm

Why in the world does Kev have a wedding ring on his finger…..??????

    • 69 Will July 9, 2009 at 2:17 pm

I just saw that…. Well, he had to have been married once in his life to have Alice (maybe n,n; )
Or maybe something happened that we don’t know about yet lol

      • 70 sixsevenTrOoPeR July 9, 2009 at 4:55 pm

        @Will,
I would like to ask you this: How old are you?
Because you indeed do not need to be married to have a kid.
        @Everyone else,
        I think it’s a promise ring. Maybe…?

    • 71 GerandLer July 9, 2009 at 2:17 pm

I was wondering the same thing!

    • 72 Sheva July 9, 2009 at 2:20 pm

      Uh, because he’s married?

    • 73 Sheva July 9, 2009 at 2:22 pm

He’s had that ring since the beginning. Check the first posts. It’s most likely that he HAD been married and then his wife kicked him to the curb or something. But the ring has always been there.

      • 74 Kelsey July 9, 2009 at 5:02 pm

i was thinking maybe she died or something? But you can put rings on as accesories,he didn’t have to be married…he could’ve stolen it

  24. 75 Lizzie July 9, 2009 at 2:02 pm

Now I feel sorry for Kev! I don’t want to but I can’t help it after seeing his face on the last picture.

    • 76 Lexma July 10, 2009 at 7:55 am

I know! Even after everything he did to poor Alice…he still looks pitiful and harmless in that last picture. Poor Kev.

  25. 77 Sam July 9, 2009 at 2:42 pm

Alice needs a bath too :v

  26. 78 Hayley July 9, 2009 at 2:48 pm

I love the story.Alice is too nice.I love Zedadias face in the last shot priceless

  27. 79 Anonymous July 9, 2009 at 2:49 pm

Has anybody else thought that Alice cooking for him is a punishment? No offense to Alice, but she isn’t the best cook in Riverview. XD

  28. 80 LiteratiTempo July 9, 2009 at 2:54 pm

I don’t remember him getting divorced from his ol’ sugar mama. I hope Z and Alice become happy soon, although I think he’s and Adult while she’s a YA.

    • 81 Sheva July 9, 2009 at 3:33 pm

You don’t remember it because it happened outside the scope of this story, as in, before this story started.

  29. 82 Lostdiadem July 9, 2009 at 3:02 pm

You know this isn’t what it used to be. I mean Kev went around the neighbourhood, nearly starved to death, and arrived back to Alice. roBurky wasted 3 posts with Kev running aimlessly and we have no explanation!
And Alice’s behaviour is odd. She gives every payment to charity (even though she is poor) and now she is cooking for her enemy father who ruined her life and is now trying to cause trouble with Zedadias. Maybe he should remove the Good trait.
The posts now contain more pictures and less plot, today and yesterday’s stories could have been merged in one. The main point of this post is that Alice did not sleep well! Where is the quality?

    • 83 Kelsey July 9, 2009 at 4:59 pm

i think this story is still good but it does lack some of that emotional quality, like when kev hit alice, that was heartbreaking. the posts have become to short but this is a good story

    • 84 Jackie July 9, 2009 at 7:14 pm

I think there’s a chance roBurkey may actually have a life, and a job that limit the amount of time he can spend updating his blog.

      • 85 Samantha July 10, 2009 at 5:27 am

I’m sure they have a life and time is limited….I don’t think I could pull this off. However it is true that some of these posts are rather short and seem to be something that should be merged. I think that perhaps maybe a full sims day could fit into 1 post. It doesn’t take long to play 1 sim day, and if most the events are free will I am sure using the speed options would help things out if needed without interfering with substance.

Personally I still enjoy the story, but it does suck that we’re only geting a few moments of the day at a time.

      • 86 Daniel July 10, 2009 at 12:28 pm

        @Samantha

Yes exactly and he´s probably also playing the game for fun, using the speed options to make them interact in Free Will faster? my my, but that would take away the “fun” no?..

      • 87 Samantha July 10, 2009 at 1:34 pm

        @ Daniel
using the speed options wouldn’t necessarily take away all the fun, it would depend on how they were used. I’m not saying just speed through all the action or the fact that they even need to be used at all. I was merely saying that playing a sim day doesn’t take long and at certain times when the sims are doing nothing or remaining in the same action for several hours (sleeping, playing tag, watching tv, walking aimlessly through riverview) the speed options could help a little. Lets face it even at the slowest speeds (if you exclude the sleeping time) the last two posts probably could have been merged together.

and as I said before I still enjoy the story I just think Lostdiadem has a point. I’d like to see the posts have a little more time added to the storyline of each episode, though I’d completely understand if time was that severe an issue

  30. 88 Michelle July 9, 2009 at 3:16 pm

Just started reading today, Love It! Good Job, I can’t wait to read the next one!

  31. 89 Allison July 9, 2009 at 3:37 pm

I love this blog so much. You do a fantastic job writing it, and it convinced me to go get Sims 3 and try it out. Now I’m hooked.

  32. 90 RavenclawRebel July 9, 2009 at 3:42 pm

This is awesome! Umm, one question, though. I downloaded Alice and Kev for my game, but they also came with a baby girl, Chastity Bin Diver. Does Alice have a little sister that you’re not telling us about?

    • 91 sixsevenTrOoPeR July 9, 2009 at 4:57 pm

that… wasn’t on my game… but now im sorta confused….

    • 92 Rain July 9, 2009 at 6:08 pm

Which one did you download? I downloaded Kid alice and I didn’t get a baby… I want my refund! lol joking (since we didn’t pay in the begining)

    • 93 Samantha July 10, 2009 at 5:31 am

my teen alice doesn’t have a little sister, nor does my kid alice. if you’ve let them play as npcs for any length of time kev may have had her during that time. A sim doesn’t need to have a partner to reproduce to help keep the neighborhood alive when they are being played as npcs…sort of like he adopted and the child services made a mistake in thinking he was a good parent. some people have mentioned a new baby but its never the same name so the story we’re reading shouldn’t have a baby missing from the plot.

  33. 94 Kelsey July 9, 2009 at 3:42 pm

i wish alice would tell kev that he cant pick on her any longer because she’s not a child anymore…but then you’d have to find a new creative way to keep the story going.

But hey, Kev is an elder and their live span is controlled by their health and lifestyle and a homeless, over weight, starving and emotionally insane man might not be the maxis standard for “healthy” 🙂

  34. 96 medleymisty July 9, 2009 at 3:50 pm

I like the pictures without text – and the screenshots of Riverview make me wish I’d set my story there.

I think it’s a great story, and I give props to roBurky for updating so often.

  35. 98 Snobunyny July 9, 2009 at 4:08 pm

Kev will make a wonderful ghost. I wonder is he will live long enough to eat. Hmmmmmm

  36. 99 Capn John July 9, 2009 at 4:09 pm

That reminds me of the joke about the Newly Weds who came back from their honeymoon to find an elderly relative had moved in.

The old lady stayed for several weeks and the new husband was getting tired of having her around, so he spoke to his wife. “Honey, how long is your grandmother going to be staying with us?”

“My grandmother?” replied his wife. “I thought she was your grandmother.”

  37. 100 Katie July 9, 2009 at 4:22 pm

What relationship level are Zed and Alice at? Are they friends, good friends, or best friends?

  38. 101 Mark July 9, 2009 at 4:24 pm

I was thinking this story might degenerate into a rambling aimless Sim life blog, but the pace and tempo are back on track again!

Still keeping my interest, blog on!

Can’t Alice take a few dollars and start building a shack on their lot? A small floor, 4 walls, a door, a roof and a bed won’t take that long to save up for, and would be a huge help. Enough with the charity, Alice is the needy one!

  39. 102 Simletters July 9, 2009 at 4:38 pm

Poor Alice, although the reason I love her is that she still loves her father but she really does need to start looking out for herself

  40. 103 Derek July 9, 2009 at 4:41 pm

Alice still hasn’t learned to shower, eh?

  41. 105 Smirch July 9, 2009 at 4:42 pm

Give that poor chick a frigging bath for fux sake. Zed must have no sense of smell or he is a complete saint.

  42. 106 Marie July 9, 2009 at 4:45 pm

can we get 2 updates a day??? I’m addicted!!!!

  43. 107 Ingrid July 9, 2009 at 4:53 pm

How come Alice stinks the day after her dad shows up and not the day he was gone? She wore the same hoodie both days.

Why did she sleep on top of the covers, fully clothed, 24 hours after a full night’s rest? The night before, when she was so exhausted she at first fell asleep on the floor, she eventually managed to put on pajamas and slip under the covers.

  44. 109 Jojoseelye July 9, 2009 at 5:05 pm

I love this story so much! I have been so addicted to this ever sense I found it. I’m on vacation in Colorado right now and reading this is making me miss playing the sims 3. I can’t wait to go back home and play it again! I havnt played in 2 weeks! Ugh, I’m gonna die!

  45. 110 Kelsey July 9, 2009 at 5:07 pm

ooh ooh what if kev’s wife (alice’s mom) died in labour and they tried everything they could resulting in huge doctor bills that alice and kev couldn’t pay so they lost everything. Kev loved his wife so it caused him to go insane and he blamed alice for her death? Just an idea..

  46. 113 xoxojackiee July 9, 2009 at 5:11 pm

doesn’t that sign over his head mean he’s starving to death?
Cause everytime my sims get that, they die right away.

    Is Kev finally dying? 🙂

    • 114 Snobunyny July 9, 2009 at 5:18 pm

That’s what I just said. (tried to-had typo)

    • 115 Jacob July 9, 2009 at 7:48 pm

No, the first time this should show up is when they have about 24 hours to eat until they might die. My Sims get this symbol all the time and they have never died. But if Kev hasn’t eaten in a while then yes, this could mean he is going to die soon. But I HIGHLY doubt a Sim with a high free will like him will just walk around not caring of they die of starvation. Eating is one of the first thing a Sim will do if their needs are low.

  47. 117 Shadowheart July 9, 2009 at 5:21 pm

That symbol above Kev’s head means he’ll die soon if he doesn’t get food!! I starve sims a lot lol.

    Lovin’ the story still

  48. 118 angela July 9, 2009 at 5:30 pm

I’ve been inspired to rent the game from my library and see how I like it and then possibly purchase.

    I love the library

  49. 120 livvi July 9, 2009 at 5:39 pm

Zedidas’ face is priceless. Hopefully Alic will accidentally burn the food and have to start over, and by that time Kev will have died.

  50. 121 Teeyuhh! July 9, 2009 at 6:01 pm

    What’s Zed’s last name?

  51. 122 Rain July 9, 2009 at 6:15 pm

*crosses fingers* I don’t like being mean but I’m thinking Kev needs to die soon… Maybe I can get my rage out by playing sims 3 *inches out of Internet Explorer and onto Desktop* Yay!

  52. 123 Nicole July 9, 2009 at 6:24 pm

wait wait wait for the conversation about dieing people and the sims mouring my sims mom and dad died all in the course of like a week and all she did was blink. She talked to them all the time and had them over but she didn’t do or say anything when the little yellow box popped up that says Blah blah blah has passed on.

    • 124 Katie July 9, 2009 at 6:45 pm

From my experience, the Sim has to be present when the loved one dies for the mourning to happen.

      • 125 Samantha July 10, 2009 at 5:37 am

or live in the same house hold….my sims parents died and i didn’t want them to have the 2days of mourning so i had been keeping them away from the house when i knew it was coming. They were at the library or gym or something when it happened and they still got the moodlet. It sucked, I hate that stupid thing.

  53. 126 Delinda July 9, 2009 at 6:29 pm

She’s been in Zed’s hous for 24 hours now. Why hasn’t she bathed?

  54. 127 Mandy July 9, 2009 at 6:47 pm

omg this is really great, i hope alice dumps her father in the next few days and marry zed!!! greeat job on this!!!! keep up the good work!!!

  55. 128 Dryad61 July 9, 2009 at 7:04 pm

Zed is a great guy. Most wouldn’t let Kev even sit on the couch let alone sleep on it especially covered with all the dust and sweat from the walkabout.

  56. 129 WaterMelon July 9, 2009 at 7:07 pm

Do you leave this all to free will, or do you control them sometimes?

    • 130 Micsk8111 July 9, 2009 at 11:33 pm

i beleive he did control them some of the times. he probally controlled kev when he went on his “journey” i do not beleive tht a sim can just wonder out without being instructed

  57. 131 Alice and Kev Fan July 9, 2009 at 7:18 pm

Ack! Kev! You have such a precious daughter! All this time Kev is searching for someone to love him. He’s got someone in his life who is trying her very best and he keeps rejecting her!

I think she would mourn him in death. I do wonder–however–if he would mourn her.

    • 132 Kelsey July 9, 2009 at 8:48 pm

he’d probably kick her grave…or possibly realize that he lost the one thing that still loved him…but i doubt it

  58. 133 nici July 9, 2009 at 8:49 pm

You are doing what no marketing campaign could ever do for this game! I truly hope that EA credits you for the spike in sales..because I’ve never played the game and want to from reading your post. And I can’t be the only one! I’ve shared this with everyone. What an awesome blog this is!

  59. 134 Daghain July 9, 2009 at 9:14 pm

Zed’s face kind of says it all.

  60. 135 maddie July 9, 2009 at 9:44 pm

ohh, i wish i had zed, hes not in my riverview ):

i’d looove for you to upload him so we can download himm.
    pleeease?

  61. 138 humanhater July 9, 2009 at 9:46 pm

gotta say in some ways Kev reminds me of my dad…thats not good is it?
    …hmmmm

  62. 140 Mr Gray Tiger July 9, 2009 at 9:53 pm

Omg, I just noticed which house it is! Zed’s house have been shown in a lets play of the sims 3!
Hah now I know where he lives!

    • 141 Samantha July 10, 2009 at 5:40 am

he doesn’t live there when you first open the riverview neighborhood. during the process of the story he moved in…I’d really like to know where he came from. If he was a npc child or if roBurkey created him, or even someone moving in from out of town

    • 142 Katie July 10, 2009 at 5:56 am

I just realized that the Sim family I recently made lives in that very house! Weiiird.

  63. 143 Quix July 9, 2009 at 10:20 pm

Love the expression on Zed’s face there! And yeah, I actually ended up getting two copies instead of waiting because of this blog. EA should be sponsoring you, tee hee.

  64. 144 Fever July 9, 2009 at 10:20 pm

Glad to see that the “show” is back on track. Excellent. 😀

  65. 145 RavenclawRebel July 9, 2009 at 10:45 pm

I downloaded the teenage Kev and Alice, created another family (it took about five minutes), moved them in, and by the time I’d had them settled and my character could walk over there, there was a little baby, and Kev was tossing her in the air. He liked her until she started crying because she was hungry. So, roBurky, where did Chastity come from?? I’ve gotta know, because when I play the Bin Divers, it won’t tell me who her mother is, just that Kev and Alice are her family.

    • 146 Micsk8gr8 July 9, 2009 at 11:37 pm

tht is really rally weird? look at the family tree….our they related to baby chasity? weirddddd 😛

    • 147 Kimmeh July 9, 2009 at 11:39 pm

dundundun. maybe the plot will thicken? ;]

    • 148 EDreams July 9, 2009 at 11:49 pm

If I’m reading this right, this is because the story progression in Sims 3 makes no sense and will randomly generate babies even in single-parent homes.

If you want to fix that, and a lot of other issues, I highly recommend you install Awesomemod: http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,15185.0.html

    • 150 Snobunyny July 9, 2009 at 11:53 pm

I started a Kev + teenager to play in the background of the family I was already playing. When I checked on them there seemed to be an older sim there-turned out to be a young adult Alice but her hair was now in a bun. Rechecked a little latter and they had a baby. She was also listed as Kev’s daughter and Alice’s sister. Kinda funny cause they don’t even have a bed on the lot or a girlfriend for Kev. My thinking is the game probably has an internal need to generate a certain number or children of different sexes to continue the fluidness of the game. Everyone cannot be old adult or a relative of our sims, otherwise there would be no one to date. Hmmmmm maybe.

  66. 151 MoraSue July 9, 2009 at 10:56 pm

Zed’s face is priceless in the last shot. ha ha ha. I love it.

  67. 152 alizah flesher July 9, 2009 at 11:21 pm

alice and kev need to take a shower

  68. 153 Kaitlin July 9, 2009 at 11:26 pm

    The third picture.

Kev has a wedding ring. I wonder who he’s married to. 😮

    • 154 Rachel July 9, 2009 at 11:45 pm

Nobody. It’s just an accessory… you can just put them on your sims now instead of only being able to have them if your engaged/married. You have to ask to find out if they’re single now.

      • 155 Mary July 10, 2009 at 7:51 am

The wedding ring is on the wedding finger, or in the Sims version, the accessory ring is on the first finger.

      • 156 Mary July 10, 2009 at 7:53 am

I meant, “The wedding ring is on the wedding finger, the accessory ring is on the first finger.”

        Sorry!

      • 157 Samantha July 10, 2009 at 1:37 pm

my sims didn’t even get a wedding ring when they married..I don’t think sims get wedding rings in sims3 I have only seen them as accessories.

(or my neighborhood is full of really cheap sims)

  69. 158 Miao July 9, 2009 at 11:45 pm

So she cares about her father, somewhat, despite all the emotional hurt he’s caused her and the fact that they are enemies. If she were a real person, she’d be accused of enabling her father to further abuse her, therefore making the abuse partially her own fault. History will be the judge, and recognize that the fault of the abuse lies within the abuser, not the abused, but would it recognize Kev’s condition and judge him less harshly?

  70. 159 selenalore July 10, 2009 at 12:13 am

Oh man that just isn’t right. He’s come back and ruined her happy life. Someone needs to get rid of Kev. I’m on Zed’s side with this one. I feel no pity for Kev and he’s once again ruining Alice’s life.

  71. 160 Maria July 10, 2009 at 12:31 am

somehow i feel sorry for old Kev

  72. 161 Mouchas July 10, 2009 at 1:08 am

    Hi,

This is the first time posting but, have been a fan since the beginning. Thank you so much for doing this. I really enjoy and look forward each and every day, reading your next entries. I just have one question – is Alice going to take a bath soon since she is practically staying with Zed?

  73. 162 Matilda July 10, 2009 at 1:51 am

I love this story! It’s actually made me want to buy the sims 3, when i wasn’t really interested in it before.
Alice is a wonderful character, she seems so real, i have to keep telling myself she’s just a sim XD Kev has his moments too :p this whole story is very touching and thought provoking, and you’re very good at telling it! Keep up the good work 🙂

  74. 163 Chris July 10, 2009 at 2:42 am

It’s interesting to see that there actually *are* things that will tick off Zed–he usually seems to ignore problems like that.

  75. 164 usualroutine July 10, 2009 at 3:19 am

I actually feel somewhat sorry for Kev – despite all the pain he’s caused Alice, he IS having a pretty bad life, as well.

Also, why does Alice always seem to gravitate towards Zed’s house? I think I smell something… could it be… LOVE?!??!!!!???!!?!???!

Or Kev. Come to thing of it, probably Kev.

  76. 165 Code July 10, 2009 at 3:33 am

Kev is the only reason I keep reading this “story”. If he dies I hope his ghost haunts Zeds house. I don’t care much for Z.

  77. 167 Sayoni July 10, 2009 at 5:29 am

I really hope alicie will hook up with zed AND get a job, a life of her own, etc. i mean she had such a hard life it would be good if she found some love, started a family…yes i know shes a computer game character…

  78. 168 Manda July 10, 2009 at 5:59 am

In the last shot, Zed’s expression seems to be saying, “I’m surrounded by body odor! One of you PLEASE bathe!”
Also, has anyone else noticed how skinny Kev’s arms have become?

    • 169 boots July 10, 2009 at 11:49 am

      i thought the same. xDD

and i think it’s because elders stop having muscles. …well, not stop having muscles, but stop being buff. in create-a-sim you stop having the musculature slider with an elder.

  79. 170 Kelvin July 10, 2009 at 8:25 am

    Hey, has Kev got thinner?

  80. 171 enkeli63 July 10, 2009 at 10:26 am

I love your story! I’ve been following it for a while through the blogroll on my Sims 3 blog, and I can’t wait to read more 🙂

  81. 172 Alteysha July 10, 2009 at 12:25 pm

I think I’m with Alice on this one…even if it was the mosted hated person in my life I don’t think I could let them starve to death. =/

  82. 173 Troy July 10, 2009 at 1:40 pm

I don’t understand… Why doesn’t Alice take advantage of the shower at Zedadias’ house? If he’s being all nice and letting her stay there makes sense that he’d let her use the facilities as well. Her green stink cloud is getting rather long at this point.

  83. 174 Alexis July 10, 2009 at 1:47 pm

I hope Kev Dies Soon Because He Is Ruining Alice Life Like Come On Just Look At Him! I Bet Alice Is Like Wtff Get Out Of Here! Zedadias Did Not Even Invite Him So Why Is He Still There? I Would Just Put Him In A Small Room Without Doors Or Windows And Let Him Die.

  84. 175 ditzybug July 10, 2009 at 5:36 pm

I am enjoying all your hard work so much, thank you! And thank you for the very giving and sharing nature this in presented in and the message it delivers.

  85. 176 Nicole from way up there July 10, 2009 at 6:32 pm

Ok that makes sense considering she moved out

  86. 177 iokl10 July 10, 2009 at 10:44 pm

If i was Zeb, i would burn that couch…

  87. 178 ronaldsf July 11, 2009 at 7:01 am

Kev seems to be getting awful lean.

  88. 180 r July 12, 2009 at 2:01 pm

zedediah’s expression made me laugh out loud. not even kidding.

  89. 181 Westiedog12 July 12, 2009 at 9:50 pm

I think he’s just mad they smell so bad. And alice, DON’T FEED KEV! We want him to starve.

  90. 182 cartoonfansparadise August 8, 2009 at 4:35 pm

ive never seen that starving thing in the last pic… he must be seriously hungry ! haha free meals at the park from picnic baskets? ive done that.

  91. 183 bellavocediva February 9, 2010 at 6:17 pm

I love the story and characters you created with this wonderful game! I tried to do something kind of like this but I hated to see my sims sad.

    love, peace, and sims
    bella voce diva

  92. 184 Sarah June 14, 2010 at 8:29 pm

I can’t believe how hooked I am on this!!!

Whoever wrote this: you’ve got an amazing career in literature ahead of you!!! Keep up the good work!!!
