When Alice was young, Kev wanted nothing to do with her, and she mostly had to fend for herself. But now that Kev is growing old, she’s reluctantly making the decision that she can’t do the same to him.
When Alice arrives back at Zedadias’ home late at night, she finds Kev wandering around behind the house. She immediately gets more verbal abuse from him.
But she puts up with it and takes Kev to the diner, where she pays for him to have a meal.
When his hunger is satisfied, Kev begins to accost the other people outside.
Alice comes out after Kev, stands and watches him for a moment, then goes back inside to buy a drink.

Oh, poor Alice!
She is so sweet. I really think Alice loves Kev, and Kev really loves Alice, but they are too stubborn and pigheaded to admit it!
I agree and I’m happy to see things are going forward in a more realistic manner. I was beginning to get nervous that she might end up moving in or something; my experience with the game has lead to the computer asking me to move in many a time.
Seeing her buy food, improving life with hard work is nice; not just some self gratifying story of poor pulled out of the gutter with charity, because that’s not how it works most often. Zed is a nice guy but I’ll say again, he’s terrible long term help material, and it would end up some charity through the game’s system.
This past post in particular has dealt with a lot of my doubts that were building up.
It’s not about admitting it. I truly think that Kev has no idea *how* to show affection, and he may have affected Alice’s understanding of love and affection as well. These sorts of things are passed down through generations — abuse and disfunction often are unless enough hard work and luck are involved to break the cycle.

Hey Robin, first time writing in, just to say that this blog is pure excellence. I bought the game sometime before I heard of this blog as a gift for a friend, but she didn’t want it. So I had it lying around until I stumbled upon Alice And Kev and I must say, this made me want to play it immediately. The way Alice and Kev interact with each other, the way Zed makes those faces in the mirror, and Kev’s insanity keep me interested in your blog and as soon as I read another chapter I can’t wait to read the next.
Anyway, great blog, and I hope Alice will have a great future, preferably not having to withstand Kev’s insults.

Kid(s). He was accused of molesting more than one. Only God, the children and him know the truth – we will never know. In my heart I pray it is not true. I pray every day for the children of the world to be safe and free from harm.
It isn’t true Mouchas. It was proven in a court of law. Plenty of people know it’s not true including the people involved. These young people were under the influence of abusive parents (one of whom sued his own father for brutally attacking him) and I pray for them and all the children of the world as well. Just as Michael did.
I always think of this every time I see Alice sleeping on a bench or on the ground somewhere:

In Pantalones he may have been talking about when MJ hung his baby over a balcony to show his fans. Just saying! Not trying to offend, but he did do that and that was (you have to admit no matter how much you loved him) absolutely insane. Pantalones may not have been making any mention to the whole child molestation rumors and what not.

🙂 Thanks Apriil. I never gave him a hard time for that because he apologized for it and never did it again. I’ve seen worse examples of wonderful Mommies and Daddies momentarily losing their heads. (I’m a former Nanny.) They were always remorseful and because they were otherwise very attentive Parents, I would encourage them to forgive themselves and move on. Parents have enough to deal with without continuous punishment of momentary mistakes. Given all the love, attention, and care Michael gave his now seven year old son, a 3 second laspse of judgement corrected before things got worse can be forgiven.
Insane is not a 3 second flub not intended to harm. That’s what I call silly.
Insane would be Charles Rothenberg and Susan Smith. (Those are just two examples and I’m not about to bring this thread down by listing what they did.)
Now that I think about it–compared to them–Kev is harmless.
I just didn’t want anyone else starting to attack, I’ve seen how angry people seem to get so quickly so I was just stepping in in hopes that it didn’t escalate into a “he did it!” “he did not!” thing that centered around someone who may or may not have even meant that. Luckily no one else has seemed to say anything so that’s good 🙂

Alice has me thinking…We know Kev’s personality traits and we know Alice is kind. But maybe she is able to see something in him–some trait hidden from even our eyes–that appeals to her kindness and causes her to love him even when he’s mean.

Exactly! Why does always those sims that are most unlikely to want/have a baby get a baby while you’re playing with others?? When my sims kept on having babies on my own, I made some couples with the thought that they can have so many babies as they like and I don’t even play with them… but they didn’t have children, only my single, not-so-child-loving sims had babies all the time! XP
so babies get born when ur not playing… great….

you don’t have to make families make sense literally as long as there is an adult/elder/young adult there can be as many babys/toddlers/children/teenagers as you want and if you’re in the game you can call the adoption agency and adopt. and the ring is just an accesory not a wedding ring!

I used to think that they should fall in love, but then I remembered that Zedadias has the Childish trait. That could end up horribly for Alice, having an inappropriate father and an annoying boyfriend. But as I type this, I’m thinking Alice and Zed should date so her life gets worse!

Actually in the Sims 3 there aren’t wedding rings, you can simply have rings on your ring finger, middle finger, etc.
Not exactly true, TW. I did not create my original character (Krystal Starr) in my story wearing jewelry of any kind. When she got married, a ring appeared on her hand.
Jewelry can be added to a character for cosmetic reasons, but whether that ring Kev wears is from a prior relationship or something he bought in better days, or picked up out of a Cracker Jack box, we’ll never know unless Robin chooses to tell us.
And, I hope he doesn’t…it’s more fun speculating about it. 🙂

You take the most wonderful pictures for this blog. They are so close-up and really show the amazing expressions the Sims are able to make with the Sims 3. I’m playing with my alice and kev and she’s in the med career and has built her house up quite nice until she married some guy, now she’s on her second baby. Kev died (I never played with him!)

That restraunt looks an awful like one of our local restraunts (I don’t know if it’s other cities/states as well) Gunther Toody’s. For those who don’t know, it’s a very 50’s and 60’s stylized diner, complete with music, hanging motorcycles and cars, pictures and advertisements, and big shiny red booths. It’s a lot of fun.

Alice does have a job. She works at a grocery store I believe or some type of store. She got it to help her pass grades in high school.

Actually that’s just Alice’s stench trail. You can see it following her. One of my Sims was electrocuted yesterday and he had a smoke trail. The smoke one doesn’t show up as well as the green stink, but even so.

The woman in the scrubs is Shirley Lin of the Lin sisters, in Riverview. She has a flower pinned to her hair. At first, I also thought she was Alice, but then noticed that her hair is black. She needed a shower, apparently, not unlike the heroine herself :D.

Are they more resopnseable towards their babies. if so mabe they also take better care of their elderly as well. also it seeems that Kev’s insane trait became worse when he got older
no matter what situation i put kev in, he is such a bully and will abuse alice at any given moment if she is around and little kids who belong to other people. He is scared of ghosts, I constantly have my sim invite him to the graveyard at night just for fun.
Since my sim is evil, she loves it.

I’ve been thinking about how this might go in the long run, and I know my sims at least tend to roll a lot of “life advancing” wishes sooner or later if I don’t supply them: get married, have kids, yada yada. But instead of Alice trying to find a long-term job or a family, she seems to be spinning her wheels. Is it that she’s not rolling these wants, or are you considering that “easy money,” RoBurky?

i know that you try to play with minimal intervention to kev and alice, but maybe some of us like to know which action was done by you (Robin) or done automatically by the sims themselves.
cause i’ve been playing sims 3 for several weeks now, my sims have never been invited by other sims or townies to a diner/ bistro

I don’t know if anyone has said this before, but there is a song that Alice and her life make me think of. Somebody to Love by… well, I can never remember who. Particularly (in this case more than some others)that line: “I try and I try and I try, and everybody wants to put me down! They say I’m going crazy…!” Yeah, that line pretty much sums up Alice’s attempts at doing good deeds. She’s so nice, but so, soooo unlucky. Poor Alice.

I have been curious to know how much you guide the character, and how much Alice and Kev do on their own. I know I tried playing them for awhile, and at least for me, if you don’t tell them to go somewhere, they’ll just stay on their own home lot. Also I tend to micro-manage my Sims – can’t just let them go do whatever they want. I ended up having another character of mine invite Alice to move in with her to get her away from Kev. Next time I looked while playing that other character, he had a new baby – I don’t know with who.
I know the game needs to make babies so that the population keeps on track but it’s really annoying! I was switching around some households and in literally 3 minutes that I wasn’t playing my main family a random baby appeared who apparently has no mother. I wasn’t going to kill the kid but it wasn’t working with what I wanted to do so I had to send him to live with his grandparents. It was really annoying!
