He gets dressed, and then starts walking.
When he reaches the last house on the street, he goes inside and grabs himself a sandwich. But he doesn’t stay to cause any more trouble than that.

I love this blog, it’s truly captivating.
But, I gotta just put it out there… Things are getting a little unnatural now.

I think if he’s walking around trying to figure out the meaning to his life or where he went wrong…or even to die…its not really that unrealistic. He just ruined the only relationship he really ever had, and his daughter is now a young adult who hates him and didn’t even invite him to her birthday party. He’s an old man, he is miserable, and probably not too far from death. He’s got a lot to think about and he probably wants to do that alone. If he’s walkin off to die, he was going to be alone when it happened anyways because Alice has been avoiding him, he might as well do it somewhere pretty rather then his little park he probably doesn’t enjoy too much.
Wait a minute this sounds like a post where the story ends!
ummm no i don’t think so… but that’s just my opinion… but i think Alice and Zedidiah are gonna fall in LOVE!!!

This is either an excellent facilitation of a computer application and its inbuilt artificial intelligence to create a story, and document the results; or it is one of the most wonderfull tales being told and created completely by human hand.
And I don’t care which. I would like to think that it is the former, and you only have a small amount of intervention, but as the story is so good I don’t care if it is the later.

Maybe this is his road to a mid-life crisis and some sort of change of heart before his end. One can hope this troubled individual can have something resembling a happy ending, or at least offer some sort of closure to Alice before/when he expires.
From a less whimsical point of view and from what I know of the game though, I’d say you’re trying to kill him off, Ro. As has been stated, his condition is critical and he’s in the middle of an empty field. The way this story’s working, he’s going to need help from someone.. maybe the next chapter is Alice finding him on the verge of collapse and how she handles it?

For some reason I’m thinking about the end of “The Truman Show” right now. Everyone witnessing the hero going away, wondering where he is going… Everyone getting really excited…
Like the movie, I feel this blog is less and less about the heroes, Alice and Kev, and more and more about us, the spectators.
The success of this blog and our interest in the story, what do they tell us about us and about human nature?
I’m really not a fan of “reality shows”, those “Big Brother” productions that we get all the time here in Europe… However, this story I find really captivating. Why is that?
Maybe it’s because it appears appropriate to get interested by fictitious characters whereas prying in real people’s life is just shameful.
Here and there, among the posts, question is raised whether our interest for the story might be exaggerated, inappropriate. Some readers argue that the emotions, sometimes anxiety expressed by others are just ridiculous. “Get a life”, “show interest in real persons rather than fictitious ones” some might think / say.
Let’s think about it. Why couldn’t feel the way we do about this story and its characters? After all, no-one has felt ashamed getting really in a novel, a movie. What’s different about this story?
I guess that this story must be compared to the first novel that was published, the first movie that was released in theatres: it’s telling us, in a new fashion, was it is about to be human: feeling concerned and caring about people we don’t know, perceiving that other part of our brain which not about logics, cause and consequences, rationality, but about feelings, social interactions…
Maybe it’s not the first actually. Getting interested by the blog, I looked over the internet for other similar experiences…
The difference with this one: better ingredients.
– It relates to our fear of experiencing a similar experience as Alice (loss of home, comfort and social life, injustice).
– The manichaeism between the two main characters: good Alice and bad Kev…
– The talent of the narrator.
– The quality of the supporting media: I’ve never played “Sims”, but look at that, everything looks so good and real: the reactions of the characters, the setting… Wow… It looks that with this new release, the story-telling possibilities are just unlimited…
Time to conclude and ,as conclusions should always be, with a question.
Is this blog creating a new “genre” in story-telling, like books and movies did?
I think probably not… The reason for the success here is also because it’s new. Somewhere in our mind, we feel we’re being part of something that had never been done before. And that will fade as more and more quality stories are being blogged over the internet. Think about “the Truman Show”. After a few of those, I’m pretty sure the spectators’ interest would have faded away. We would all realize that at some point, this is more about the way the story is told than the actual story. But what do you think?

But, in my oppinion , the reason we are so awed by this story is because as human beigns, we all have some part in our self that is caring and selfish. I beleive that this story brings out both.
We realize that other’s don’t have everything that we have and go through tough times, it opens our minds and compell’s us to give.
However, even if we won’t admit we are also urged to keep what we have for ourselves, because we don’t want to become as unfortunate as Alice and Kev.

Thank you for saying everything I wanted to say in a better way than I could ever say it.
I must disagree with your last point. Though some may be reading because its “new” I think that cannot be applied to everyone, and just because more are created does not mean the interest will fade in them. I enjoy reading and the sims (so this is perfect for me), and this is not the first sim story I’ve read. It is by far the best and reading a sim story after this might be difficult to do without comparing. If there were more sim stories of this quality I would continue to read them just as I continue to read the others that are actually written rather poorly. With more better quality stories I believe that it would merely give more choices and I would be able to read those of my interest that are written in a way I enjoy.
Well basically I’m saying that this is not a new concept its just the first with this quality. I suppose it does feel new because most people found this through other sources and those here because its new would probably fade away, just like with every new thing. However this does not mean the general interest will fade. Those who are there for the enjoyment of a good story will stick around searching for the next thing to read. Or maybe I’m just a strange person.

I agree with the people that say that Kev is wandering off to find a good resting place. Although The Sims 3 has a nasty habit of vaporizing tombstones and their sims along with them. 😡
However, for anyone who’s played The Sims 3 in the cemetery between 12am and 6am knows that death is hardly the end of a sim’s story, and I for one really want to see Ghost Kev!! XD
That, and I also want to see Alice give Kev’s tombstone a good, swift kick.

While I really liked your earlier chapters, the last 5 or 6 have been pretty short and haven’t lasted long enough to capture the reader in the same way.
While I can see that you’re able to write well, these last ones have been a bit of a dissapointment. I’d love to see a bit more length in the chapters, switching back and forth between the characters to show their lives living out rather than one chapter Alice, one chapter Kev.

I personally think that kev is unable to go on now that his punching bag, alice has grown up, and his trait of hating kids is no longer an excuse. I think that he might be able to travel to the other town and become a beach bum, though.

well kev won’t just disappear but he is old and at some point he will die. I just worry that when he does the story will be over. If anything there will need to be closure on how alice lives the rest of her life…like a “happily ever after” post and even that would probably not be enough for me. I’m always sad at the end of a good story.

Maybe he is going to the ruins: It is very beautiful there. If he is going to die, maybe Alice will find him and take him to the hospital, where she will stays with him until the end. I believe that even though her father was mean to her throughout her life, Alice will still be sad: She was said to be kind-hearted, tried to get along with him, and becomes emotional when they argue. He was the only one she had for so long: It has to make an impact.

Whilst I appreciate the fact that some people on this blog are giving genuine constructive criticism, may I just say ‘Roburky’ that this blog is THE ONLY blog I have ever found witty, soulful and entertaining enough to read every day. I hope you aren’t finding some peoples criticisms a little too critical as I have. I LOVE this blog. It’s the first thing I check online every morning and the last thing I check online at night. And yes, whilst that may officially make me a sims geek (whatever) my point is that you are doing an AMAZING job. Your images are beautiful and the story line is original, poignant and addictive. Keep up the good work, and if this does happen to be the beginning of the end of poor old Kev and Alice please keep us updated on your future projects. I am a HUGE fan.

Which reminds me; question: How often has Kev broken down from aspiration failure? What is his aspiration, or is this not quite the same as in the Sims 2?
I haven’t played TS2 in forever, but in Sims 3 you have lifetime wishes. Kev’s was to break the hearts of 10 different Sims.
Oh yeah, I forgot, but I remember roburky mentioned that now.
In TS2, you have a generalized aspiration (Family, Fortune, Knowledge, Pleasure, Popularity, Romance, or Grilled Cheese) and a lifetime want (like Marry Off 6 Children, or Become Business Tycoon, or Max out 7 Skills, or Have 50 1st Dates, or Have 20 Simultaneous Best Friends, or WooHoo with 20 different Sims, or Eat 200 Grilled Cheese Sandwiches).
So in TS2 terms, Kev’s lifetime want is to break 10 Sims’ hearts. I’m just wondering if TS3 has anything like the generalized aspirations and if it does, what Kev’s is.
The role of the aspirations in The Sims 2 has been taken by the personality traits in The Sims 3. The aspirations were always used like a generalised personality. The Sims 3 just does in much more specific terms, allowing each sim to be more unique.
I see, thank you. All of this just serves to whet my appetite more for getting this game. 🙂

Haha! I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought of the Truman Show (which I actually saw recently).
Looking at those last shots I heard a voice whisper in my head, “Truman… where are you going??????”
