Night

When Alice became hungry that evening, she chose under her free will to spend money on a meal at the restaurant nearby. When she emerges, there’s no sign of Kev.

It’s all very quiet, and Alice tries to get a little more sleep.

But it turns out Kev hadn’t gone very far, and with Alice asleep and unable to object, he can make fun of her to everyone who passes by.

Kev eventually gets bored and wanders off. But it’s now way past curfew for Alice, and she only narrowly avoids getting caught by running across the road before the police arrive.

She sits down near the pavilion to attempt her homework, with an eye on the road to watch for the policewoman. but when she comes, Alice is too slow to react, and she’s spotted.

Alice has spent more time in the company of this woman now than anyone else apart from Kev.

I haven’t reached a point in the game where the child/teenager has been absolutely miserable…but why does the social worker not come by and take her away, I wonder?

Anyway, am enjoying this story very much. It definitely gives me something to think about regarding real life homelessness.

    Thanks for doing this!

  2. 6 Shaina June 30, 2009 at 10:58 am

Those look like some pretty interesting movie titles.

Nice job with the narration. =]

  3. 7 Barotte June 30, 2009 at 11:05 am

Alice is training for a getaway driver.

  4. 8 sodasippa June 30, 2009 at 11:07 am

I love this story! I can’t wait for the next chapter!

    I love this blog.

    This is great.
I really like the Alice storylines.
I wonder about the social worker thing as well.

  9. 13 Shell June 30, 2009 at 12:44 pm

Hey, I’m loving this blog! Keep up the good work, you really feel for poor Alice, I hope she gets more happiness in her life soon 🙂

  10. 14 nancymarie June 30, 2009 at 1:01 pm

Too bad there’s not a jail. Alice could just break curfew, get caught and spend a quiet night getting sleep without her dad around.

    • 15 ToutIllumine June 30, 2009 at 2:08 pm

There actually is a jail, but you have to be in the criminal career to go to it. One of my sims at, I think, level 4 of the career would be at work for an hour until a police car rolled up and arrested her. This happened two days in a row and she almost lost her job.

    • 19 Shadowheart June 30, 2009 at 6:13 pm

I think only adults can go to jail, and it has to be for stealing I think

  11. 22 LoTekK June 30, 2009 at 1:02 pm

Ugh. Kev is just an incorrigible jerkface. 😦

Any chance of the copper adopting Alice?

    • 23 Fi June 30, 2009 at 4:32 pm

nah if you recall in earlier posts the cop makes mean comments about Alice and her smell… copper doesn’t like Alice 😦

  12. 24 Yan June 30, 2009 at 1:22 pm

    Great job again! :]

  13. 25 Net June 30, 2009 at 1:27 pm

Did the cop have a wrench this time around again?

  14. 26 ChawChaw June 30, 2009 at 1:31 pm

I absolutely adore and love this blog!
Feels pity for Alice’s misfortune yet I find Kev’s behaviour amazingly hilarious, how old is he? 15? No, but that old man sure knows how to act like one… Poor Alice, but I’m sure that her comeback would be something big or at least bigger than her dad^^ LOl
Look forward for your next post

  15. 27 J. June 30, 2009 at 1:44 pm

Luckily enough there are no drug dealers and/or criminals of some sort in the game, otherwise I guess Alice’s life could be so much worse…

    • 28 Kansine July 1, 2009 at 11:54 am

There ARE criminals, and even teens can steal stuff from any place if they’re kleptomaniacs! I think it’s a pity that there are no drugs in sims, it would just be realistic if they could use drugs, but then there would be bad consequenses too…

  16. 29 gothic_chick_demon June 30, 2009 at 1:47 pm

I just downloded Alice and Kev last night and after Kev had insulted her and called her mother a lama (dosen’t look good on him for that though). She told him he was being mean. She then had an odd wish she wanted to be level 10 in the crimanle caree but she wants to take the path of evil. lol I guess dad drove her over to the other side 😀

  17. 31 Arbitrary June 30, 2009 at 1:51 pm

These just keep getting better and better.

  18. 32 lukeB June 30, 2009 at 1:57 pm

Can I ask if the author is “driving” its characters, or leaving them totally alone and just watch? In Sims2 the sims doesn’t really do anything if left alone, is Sims3 different?

    • 33 Temtkaos June 30, 2009 at 3:45 pm

Yes, the sims really will do things on their own in the game. Mine usually do something that suits their interests, like painting or reading, but I’m sure that if you sent them downtown and then left them to their free will they would explore and surprise you by unexpectedly doing things.

    • 34 Samantha June 30, 2009 at 7:58 pm

I don’t think sims will leave lots on their own and need to be directed to do so but other then that my kids even come home and do their homework all on their own.

    • 35 JoeRDough June 30, 2009 at 8:10 pm

roBurky was kind enough to answer that exact question from me back in “Optimism.” Explanation follows:

“It’s a mix. Sims from the active household won’t go to other places without direction, so I have to do that, and Alice won’t try to do things that are inappropriate without my direction either. I’m generally giving them prods to initiate things, then letting them take over for the details.

I’m not differentiating much in the story between whether something was initiated by me or by them. When I give a reason for one of their actions, it’s either why I think their free will chose to do it, or it’s the reason I made them do it.”

    • 37 Kalheka July 1, 2009 at 2:27 am

Just enough direction to keep things on track.

  19. 38 sims lover June 30, 2009 at 2:00 pm

This is a great story!!……but ther is one thing thats inoying about the curfew why is it so early one of my teenage sims was on a date and when she got out of the movie theater it was 11 and the police took her she was like happy though…. anyway keep it up!

    • 39 Kansine July 1, 2009 at 11:59 am

Yes, the curfew simply sucks! It isn’t even realistic, maybe in some country they have it, but most of the world… so NOT. And how can you force a homeless sim to go back to their park??

      • 40 Samantha July 1, 2009 at 2:14 pm

My town has a curfew…small town in Oklahoma, US. 10&11pm may be slightly earlier but they don’t surprise me

  20. 41 Tara June 30, 2009 at 2:34 pm

Is it the policewoman with the wrench again? lol XD Poor Alice. But maybe when she gets home Kev with be all fatherly and help her with her homework.

  21. 42 Alicia June 30, 2009 at 2:36 pm

    she can adopt her xD

  22. 44 Ray June 30, 2009 at 2:52 pm

Heh. Just the other day I downloaded Alice and Kev. A burglar took her teddy when she becae a young adult. D’:

And it really didn’t help when Kev died not long after that.

    • 45 Mimi July 1, 2009 at 5:06 pm

Yeah a burglar took my alice’s teddy bear when she was a child so i had her call the cops while that was happening but they were too slow so by the time they chowed up the robber was long gone so they just yelled at alice and took kev’s park bench!

  23. 46 Julia June 30, 2009 at 3:27 pm

aw D’: I feel so bad for Alice when I read these. Even though she’s a computer game person……

  24. 47 Daghain June 30, 2009 at 3:28 pm

Poor Alice. She really can’t catch a break, can she.

And Kev just gets weirder by the day.

  25. 48 Kasey June 30, 2009 at 3:48 pm

I just love Alice & Kev! It is the best! I loved it so much, I tryed to make an Alice & Kev in the Sims2…They are BestFriendsForever! 😦 Yea… So much for letting them interact by themselfs! LOL! Please keep writing Alice & Kev!
How many days untill Alice is going to be an YoungAdult??

YOU SHOULD MAKE THIS INTO A BOOK/MOVIE/TV SHOW! IT WOULD BE SO COOL! Alice & Kev the story of being homeless in the Sims3 The Movie/book/TV show!

Ive told 19 of my friends and 10 members of my family to check out this blog and ALL HAVE LOVED IT!

  26. 53 Hayley June 30, 2009 at 4:06 pm

I love this.Keep up the good work. Can’t wait for tomorrows post

  27. 54 Luthien June 30, 2009 at 4:13 pm

I am really loving this. Thanks to you, I am playing the Sims for the first time. Oddly enough, I also became inspired to play a homeless hooker. lol It’s definitely been interesting, especially when she aspired to become a test subject at the labs, seduce a cop, and then fight said cop’s son.

    • 55 Madison July 1, 2009 at 1:11 am

you can be a hooker in the sims 3? omjeeze, i really SHOULD get this game XD I have the sims 2 but i guess its a bit different!

      • 56 Kansine July 1, 2009 at 12:01 pm

No you can’t 😦 Maybe Luthien is just using his imagination to picture his character as a hooker.

      • 57 Samantha July 1, 2009 at 2:18 pm

I had a sim with the same want as Kev and was gonna try to have 10 girlfriends at once for him but was sad to see not even that is possible…can only have 1 partner but many romantic interests. And in order to be a “hooker” you’d probably have to have a flirty mooch who would have a romantic intrest…woohoo then ask for money.

  28. 58 Lilybee June 30, 2009 at 4:17 pm

I feel so sorry for poor Alice I wonder how many days remained for her to become a young adult?=(

  29. 60 SchiZoHybrid June 30, 2009 at 6:42 pm

I find it kind of cute that they serve people without shoes at the restaurants 😀

  30. 61 Monica June 30, 2009 at 6:47 pm

What town is this in? I don’t recognize that park or the layout of the buildings. Amazing blog, by the way!

  31. 63 gwyn June 30, 2009 at 7:25 pm

I watched Matilda the other day out of boredom and I thought of this and how Alice also has a horrible father. This is a great blog and please keep up the good work!

  32. 64 Meredith June 30, 2009 at 7:26 pm

RUN ALICE RUN!!! though it would be cool if she went to jail. Sleep, probably eat, maybe shower, no kev

Riverview looks like a nice town.

    • 65 Kansine June 30, 2009 at 9:47 pm

It’s SOOO unfair, that the teens can’t actually run away from the cop, neither the adults 😦 When the police come, they simply have to follow1 Stupid 😦

  33. 66 Heirii13 June 30, 2009 at 7:39 pm

^^ I’m glad Alice was able to eat a good meal for once at the restaurant. Since there’s somewhat of an income now I’m hoping this will occur more frequently. =D If her need for Hunger becomes less crazed and desperate then maybe she’ll even have more free time to work on her homework or befriend some people who’ll ACTUALLY TAKE CARE OF HER!

Magnificent story~! I’m sure everyone who’s read Alice & Kev knows this already, though. 😉

  34. 67 Maggie June 30, 2009 at 7:50 pm

What are the traits, lifetime wishes, etc. for Kev and Alice? I’m going to try to make them myself. Very hilarious blog! Kudos!

    • 68 Kayla June 30, 2009 at 10:16 pm

Alice and Kev are downloadable on the Sims3 website.

I love the blog! I’ve read it from the very beginning, but I think this is my first comment. I downloaded them myself with the idea of having Alice completely turn her life around. I wanted to experiement with the Rags to Riches challenge, as well as this one. I must say, you have a very nice sense of captioning! I love to read what you have to say about each picture!

    • 69 Samantha July 1, 2009 at 5:58 am

The traits are told in the very first post. Kev is Hot-headed, mean spirited, insane, inappropriate, and hates children. Alice is good, clumsy, loser, and as a teen unlucky. Kevs life time goal is to be a heartbreaker with 10 girlfriends (it might be 5 but whenever i get that lifetime wish its 10). Alice I don’t think has one yet but as a young adult she’ll be forced to choose one.

  35. 70 Christine June 30, 2009 at 8:25 pm

i love this blog! thanks for updating!

  36. 71 Christine June 30, 2009 at 8:26 pm

this is just like a soap opera i can’t help but tune into.

  37. 72 Buckets June 30, 2009 at 8:56 pm

I installed Alice and Kev into Riverview long ago while I played another family. When Alice was an adult, I finally made Alice and Kev the active family. I found Alice downtown drinking. When she was done drinking, she just kept going back for more. Seems she was an unemployed alcoholic. Kev was a retired bedpan cleaner making 40 simoleons a day, spending most of his time harrassing his child son, who was always miserable. Remarkably though, Alice and Kev had an excellent relationship.

  38. 73 Wyldfairy June 30, 2009 at 9:23 pm

she can go to the community garden in game and steal veggies and fruit to eat. thats what i did with my homeless child 🙂

  39. 74 2000may23 June 30, 2009 at 9:53 pm

i know this is off topic but how do sims3 sims go on a date?

    • 75 A.P June 30, 2009 at 11:29 pm

Well i dont think they can, what happens usually for my sims is that my sim will call someone over and they will chat and talk until the other person has to go home cause its “getting too late.” but they will stay over if you ask them to “sleep over”.

    • 76 Samantha July 1, 2009 at 6:11 am

unlike in the sims2 i don’t think you can click on the option to go out but the two sims can go to a public lot with eachother…like to the movie theatre, the sports stadium, or the park and have a nice picnic. With free will you could probably ignore the rest of your family members and just concentrate on the two love birds. Usually the others take care of themselves and if someone doesn’t you have the little yellow box warning to let you know to check on them.

  40. 77 Miao June 30, 2009 at 11:44 pm

I’m tempted to play a homeless family, but I don’t know if I can take the suffering of a child for long without cheating. All my families are happy, loving, and comfortable, and that’s how I like it (as boring as it may be).

    • 78 Samantha July 1, 2009 at 6:07 am

They’re homeless but there are ways to keep them from being miserable. It just requires you to control them more than what is done for this story. In both neighborhoods there is plenty of fruit/vegetable plants to harvest. In Riverview there is a garden down the street from kev and alice and several families have gardens in their backyards (the grandpas, the joys, and the mcdermitts). Children cannot harvest but teens and adults can even without permission (drag and drop inventory onto child). The gym next door to the school has showers and toilets, tv and sterio, and in Sunset Valley it has a fridge and comfortable lounge chairs. As long as the child is with an adult curfew will not send them home so they could practically live in a public lot.

One thing i found out while playing and not sure if it would work always is that my alice befriended an adult (family-oriented, good, bookworm, ambitious, hopeless romantic). After becoming friends the woman stopped telling alice she was being inappropriate, allowing her to eat from her fridge, shower and sleep as needed.

  41. 79 simfan June 30, 2009 at 11:57 pm

i tried making a kev but he died of starvetion right away lol!

  42. 80 Azalea_Sway July 1, 2009 at 12:08 am

I’m planning on buying the original game some time this week. I already experienced The Sims 3 gameplay, but it’s so good, I just need to buy the CD itself. And when I get my hands on them, I am so going to download these two! :3

  43. 81 Leebeloola July 1, 2009 at 1:14 am

Poor Alice… getting caught just cause she’s out a bit late.
At least she’s learning how to evade them. Does she have a relationship with the policewoman?
I think it’s really amazing how you manage to update every day. 🙂

  44. 82 ChaosMageX July 1, 2009 at 3:25 am

I can’t help but wonder, by this point in the blog, how close Alice is to young adulthood and how close Kev is to death.

  45. 83 kev4ever July 1, 2009 at 3:35 am

To be fair, she could’ve waited to get home before doing her homework. Very passive aggressive.

    • 84 Dryad61 July 1, 2009 at 2:48 pm

To be fair, the way Kev has been acting all day (and night) she probably would rather be in custody than go home to him.

      • 85 Kasey July 1, 2009 at 4:19 pm

but if Alice wasnt with Kev, their would be no Alice&Kev

      • 86 Grey Sky (Yesmy1standlastnamesarereal) lol July 1, 2009 at 6:17 pm

i agree Kasey, the story revolves around them two. But when Kev get’s dies for being an elder, i wonder what Alice will do. Will she make something of herself? Or will she fall in love and have someone else support her?

      • 87 kev4ever July 2, 2009 at 2:36 am

Hey, Kev doesn’t make the rules—he just follows them.

  46. 88 Spuck July 1, 2009 at 3:45 am

This is like a soap opera, sooner or later her mother is going to come along and give her endless riches and then she will fall in love only to be torn back to her father. The plot line thickens

  47. 89 Alyssa July 1, 2009 at 3:54 am

So, am I the only one who think it would be a happily-ever-after
if she grew up into a young adult and fell in love with that guy Zedadias?

    It would be awesome!

And then Kev could be the “father in law from hell”!

    LMAO

  48. 91 Kat July 1, 2009 at 4:59 am

I have been playing the sims ever cense sims 2 came out… they have came a long way cense then. But any way the other day I was playing the Sims 3 and I made a BEAUTIFUL blonde woman very “hookerish” and then I made her husband an obese inappropriate slob with hair that looked as if some 6 year old smashed play-dough all over it. But then I got bored and we locked play-dough head in a room and he starved to death…

    • 92 Jacob July 1, 2009 at 5:54 am

lol i did something liek that. i made thhis total slut that looks like katie from my class and after i made her not kiss all the boyz i made her eat so much she popped lol

  49. 93 Go Cat Dave July 1, 2009 at 8:22 am

What happens when she is picked up by the cops? Where does she go? Do they keep her for long?

  50. 95 DarkRexx July 1, 2009 at 8:48 am

I’m going to download Kev and have him move in with my Gary Busey sim!

Who will break first?! Taking all bets!

  51. 97 sexiibradley09 July 1, 2009 at 10:46 am

I absolutely love how you made a blog for the Sims.

  52. 98 katierose July 1, 2009 at 11:16 am

    i love this story
with any luck i can get sims 3 very soon
i would very much like to try to make a homeless family
sadly i dont think it would work in the sims 2 but i think i’m gunna try anyway

    • 99 sue July 1, 2009 at 3:37 pm

      I love this story.

Indeed you can do a homeless family it the sims 2, I’ve done many in the past. It’s way easy though.

  53. 100 Alexis July 1, 2009 at 11:18 am

I downloaded Alice and Kev, and they’ve taken an od turn:

Kev found another evil Sim like him, with the exception of being filthy rich and fell in love with her, and proposed to her, so she left her husband. Then Kev died of being electrocuted in his new mansion. This leaves Alice and the woman, and Alice has a job 🙂

  54. 101 Sue July 1, 2009 at 1:55 pm

it works just fine in ts2, just keep sending them to community lots and let them carry out their lives, sleeping at home and taking care of themsleves at comm lots.

BTW: I ❤ this story so very much.

  55. 102 Jeepjeepcat July 1, 2009 at 2:11 pm

    Great update as usual:)

My Alice (downloaded from this site) is doing surprisingly well. They aren’t my main family but the teenage son of my sim family met her in school and has invited her over to feed her as often as possible. He’s started rolling wants to kiss her… (she’s also a teenager now)… Alice Santos has a nice ring to it:)

    • 103 Samantha July 1, 2009 at 2:27 pm

uh oh…I woke up too early and the next episode has not yet been posted. >.< (forgive me if any posts seem random while i stalk the blog)

I did the same with my alice. They met has kids and grew up together, during highschool they started going out and then married after they both became young adults. Alice is a good person so I invited kev to the wedding, but refused to let him live with her. He was forced to watch her happiness from across the street as when my son moved out thats where he chose to live. (and I used the kick out option so that was sort of a free will thing I'd say). Alice gained the trait grumpy instead of unlucky as a teen and then became a natural cook as an adult. Shes now in the business career track hoping to be CEO. Shes also the only one who married into my family and hasn't had more then 1 child (the children moved out and became npcs).

  56. 105 Chris July 1, 2009 at 5:09 pm

I came here following the article in the Big Issue – fascinating stuff, great writing, thank you!

  57. 106 Lucy In The Sky July 1, 2009 at 5:50 pm

Love this story!!! You should consider a career in this sort of thing, roBurky

  58. 107 Mike Banno July 1, 2009 at 6:44 pm

I tried this, and on the first day alone they became friends…weird. I would have thought he’d always be insulting her and making fun of her. he’s only scared her a few times it seems, and he hasn’t even shooed her away.

  59. 108 Parsnip July 1, 2009 at 6:59 pm

I downloaded teenage Alice and Kev and basically ignored Kev entirely. I have high free will on, so he just did what he liked. Alice started out wanting to learn gardening, which was entirely sensible, and she wanted a job. Day one she went and picked up a job at the book store. She tried to finish learning gardening at the library, but couldn’t before curfew, so she went home.

Kev was already asleep on the bench, and spent all his time either talking to himself or sleeping. Alice went to school and had just enough time to run next door to the gym to shower before work. She was rubbish at work because of her exhaustion, but managed to make it through the day. She went home to sleep and donate money to the Walled In Sims Society. She did her homework just before school, and finished it IN school, poor thing.

Her first few days were like that, eating at school or what she harvested from the community garden down the road from her lot. She worked hard at her job but barely stayed employed. It all turned around when she saved her pennies and bought a tiny four poster bed. She cleared the brambles in the back corner and set up her bed and teddy bear. The sleep made all the difference.

She aged up *really* fast it seemed, but by the time she did she was on honor roll and knew how to garden and fish. Kev died not long after she aged up by drowning in a swimming pool of some rich family he’d been abusing. Who knew he could swim? Guess he couldn’t. Alice is currently in mourning.

  60. 109 Anna July 1, 2009 at 8:14 pm

I agree with what some people are saying, that if Alice went to jail, she could sleep, and be away from Kev. Probably be good for the girl.
But it’s sad to think that she would be better off in jail than at her own “home”.
This story is so good! I could never make anything this good.

  61. 110 Home Garden Products July 2, 2009 at 1:01 pm

I like the story but most of all I liked the location where Alice was sleeping. Actually that is little bit similar location that I want to make in my Home Garden.
