While Yvette freaks out, Kev seems horribly guilt-stricken.
But it’s alright. Kev has a plan. Kev knows how he can fix this.

how do you make your sims homeless?
You can’t really. They must have a ‘lot’ to live on, you just simply buy an empty lot, and decorate it like a park (in this author’s version), or whatever you like. While adult sims can stay out, perhaps indefinitely, from home, children have to be back at ‘home’ by their curfew or the police will come and bring them there.
I did a similar adventure with two sims in my game, inspired by this wonderfully written story. It isn’t very hard to keep them fairly happy without the modern necessities of home, as you can grow plants for food, and steal fruit and vegetables from your neighbors (The Grandpa’s house in RiverView has a garden that produces fruits and veggies each day). But it is the genius of the writer that makes this story so fun to read. The idea is novel and very fun to experience with yourself in charge, but this story simply adds the spice of life.
Wait, I thought Kev was poor. Hmmph. Interesting to see how this will turn out.
I was thinking the same thing. I haven’t played the Sims since the original, but doesn’t it cost something like 1000 Simoleons to get married? Where did he get the money to propose?

It doesn’t cost anything to propose in Sims 2 or Sims 3. I assume Kev just used one of those cheap toy rings that little kids get out of vending machines. 😀

Kate, unless you are an adolescent, you should know by now that a good chunk of guys are commitment impaired, at least when it comes to relationships. Most men are not going to try to solve an argument or fix an emotional wound by proposing marriage. Flowers and/or chocolates maybe, but a chunk of carbon that cost him at least a month’s salary and a lifetime commitment… I think not.
This only happens when there is a bun in the oven, like when my bro told his gf, “I don’t love you, but if you want me to, I’ll marry you.”

if he does this then his dream of 5 girlfriends could be slightly more difficult. He’ll probably try to get with the daughter again later when Yvette isn’t looking. If they do get married though it could mean the end of being homeless for Alice and Kev…and for the story’s sake I think thats a bad idea.
but maybe, just maybe, Alice’s birthday is coming up, so when she becomes a young adult she will finally be rid of her insane excuse for a father!
I agree.. although in my game, my main sim just met Alice’s dad at the park.. and since my sim is my first generation legacy sim with the same Aaron, and Alice is, so far, the only sim I’ve seen with an A name… he’s trying to make friends with her… she still a child in my game, but soon to be a teen like Aaron. We’ll see where that goes.
I just wish we could get more then a few minutes of play time to read each day.

that’s the thing about the sims, a lot of stuff just magically appears out of nowhere. like, you go to get your car, and the Sim just shakes their keys and magically gets into the car. lots of funny stuff like that 😛

I personally would not describe myself as hooked or emotionally involved, but it is definitely something like a great book and VERY enjoyable to read.
This is a great story, and the cliffhanging stretches it out and keeps it interesting. Keep it up.

About the ring…
In the Sims 2, when my person proposed to a man, SHE (yes, I had to make the girl propose as the man would not commit) pulled a ring out of virtually no where. She had no money, gave no indication she had it, yet *POOF*! Diamond ring. I assume same thing happens in the Sims 3?

If Sims marry in Sims 3, the newlywed couple must live on the same lot, either (in this case) Kev’s household or Yvette’s. You are allowed to move in other family members as well–from both families.

I don’t know what makes the Sim engine decide on life changing moves for their lil’ folk, but seriously, if some hobo started putting the moves on you (you actually ended up liking said hobo) would you really marry em? I mean…. That’s just not logical.
Well, it will make for an interesting plot either way. Alice’s story will probably shift in another direction as she enters adulthood.

Love the “up-yours” smirk of the daughter in the first panel and the awestruck look on Yvette’s face on the last.
I downloaded Alice (child) and Kev last night, put them into Riverview and just set back and watched. They never left the lot, except for Alice going to school. They chatted and made friends. About 3 or 4 times he did something negative in addition to waking her up and telling her to leave the room. Kev died on the 4th day from hunger. It was fun to see the Grim Reaper as I hadn’t seen him before. I assume from this experience that you do have to do some kind of direction with them to produce a story, or this is just one scenario of the way they might play it out. It is great to watch the story unfold here though! Thanks, Robin
They won’t do everything in free will…plus you have to have the settings changed to allow the maximum amount of free will…my sims will go else where and dig through the trash for food when necessary…or go to random people’s houses esp after school

Since the average person doesn’t have a clue how to play chess, ya you’re right Mark. Maybe they should have made it an “optional” table, where a player can choose to play chess, or checkers, or some other logic style games, maybe go-fish, or crazy eights.

But, actually, in Sims 3 you can have your sim start off with a ring, on their ring finger, making it actually seem like they are married–and just like in Sims 3, a single mother can have a son, with no father. A single father, can have a daughter, with no mother.
In Sims 3, some sims spawn other sims.. xD i dont know how, dont wanna know either..

Did anyone see the Dr. Phil show today? They something a tad familiar. There was this one woman (probably mid to late fifties) who left her millionaire husband for a biker with no job/money. Granted, the millionaire husband was controlling.
I was thinking about this story when I heard about that. lol. It’s not too crazy to think this can happen in real life.
Yes, it would definitely be intresting if Yvette married Kev! This is very entertaining. But does anybody else feel like it’s getting more and more outlandish?
what started out as an interesting social commentary has turned into a soup opera. an amusing soup opera, but a soup opera none the less.
Yeh, I’m not too happy with this soap opera-like section. Chronologically, it should have been interspersed with the previous Alice getting a job posts. The reason it wasn’t was because I was still debating whether to post it.
interesting. whether or not to post the proposal episode? seems like a pretty big turn of events, but does seem detatched from the rest of the story a bit.
It does an excellent job of delineating Kev’s insane, innapropriate nature. The soap opera like part, in my mind, is the reaction of the sims he’s interacting with. Perhaps more soap-like than some would like, but I think it fits perfectly in following the behavior of Kev.
Such is the Sims though. To have a game of the Sims play out that wasn’t at all outlandish would be a feat indeed. Especially since this is a world where becoming a mad scientist isn’t particularly uncommon, your sims can be blue or green if you so wish, and women can give birth to half-human half-ghost babies.
If it’s realism you’re into, perhaps the Sims is not the best place to look.

I actually tried to imitate your homeless characters but I ran into some problems:
A: Both Sims have red eyes and look demonic.
B: The daughter is cloned from the dad; picture Bill Clinton’s face on a chubby 14-year-old girl.
C: There’s too many plants and it counts as decoration.
D: I should not have given them butterflies. They stay up all night clapping.
E: It’s really easy to barge into peoples’ houses and use their stuff.
F: .. got the neighbour pregnant, after she dumped her husband. (Sadly, the baby has blue-eyes.)
