Desperation

Alice wakes up outside Anita’s house feeling no better after her involuntary nap.

She heads inside to look for Anita, and fights the tiredness in order to swallow something of the remnants of a meal that was left out on the table.

Following Anita out into her back garden, Alice tries a last-ditch attempt to further befriend Anita.

Anita listens, but before Alice can ask again to be allowed to stay, she interrupts to say goodnight, and goes back inside to bed.

Alice is left standing outside in the dark, with nothing left for her to do but return alone to the park bench she had been fighting so hard to get away from.

    Poor Alice. 😦

one piece of advice for alice:

CUT YOUR LOSES AND BUY A BED WITH THE MONEY YOU EARN!

  3. 26 Jenn June 22, 2009 at 9:19 am

    Aww, poor Alice. 😦

First time posting, so I just wanna say that I absolutely love this story! it’s facinating. I’ve attempted similar things (at least having them be “homeless” $ the same traits), but get bored after a half hour. great job with what you’re doing! keep it up. 😀

    • 27 Rico June 22, 2009 at 9:44 am

it does get boring but when you are making it for the storytelling, it is a whole different story…

I am myself thinking of doing something like this, but not sure how to do it.

      • 28 Rico June 22, 2009 at 9:46 am

what I meant was that I don’t know how the storyline should go, I know how to Actually do it, but just not the story line…

      • 29 Samantha June 22, 2009 at 9:55 am

Why not let the characters decide the story line? I mean kind of let free will do most the work. Give the characters some wacky traits and then unleash them into the world. If they don’t create a story maybe their actions will inspire one. Just take lots of picture until you know what it is 😛

      • 30 Nicole June 23, 2009 at 4:25 am

Here are some ideas for your story line, Rico.

        1. A renegade modern princess fleeing her country wich is at war.
        2. A latin-american immigrant just trying to make it by in one of the border states after fleeing Mexico. I find that many people don’t have enough sympathy for these people and need to know their story.

  4. 31 Carlos June 22, 2009 at 9:21 am

    Poor Girl…

@forrestgoodson: She’s broke, you madman! She cant buy a bed!

    • 32 Jaclyn June 22, 2009 at 3:30 pm

She earned 100 simoleons her first day at work, but donated it. If she saved for just a few days she could buy the cheapest bed.

  5. 33 melaniem June 22, 2009 at 9:34 am

Anita makes me mad. In know she’s a “loner” but c’mon!

    • 34 Samantha June 22, 2009 at 10:00 am

I’m guessing being rich Anita doesn’t completely understand what Alice feels right now. However I’m going to guess Anita doesn’t know Alice is homeless.

  6. 35 forrestgoodson June 22, 2009 at 9:35 am

    she’s got a job…

and by the way, this might be a bad time to ask, but i have some questions about sims 3:

    1. can you onlycontrol one family in a neihborhood? someone said you could…
    2. when controlling a family, will neihbors move in/out, age, and develop their houses?
    3. can you really just walk around the neighborhood freely?
    4. not really a question(more like shameless adertising), but visit my site at forrestgoodson.wordpress.com!

    • 36 Samantha June 22, 2009 at 9:42 am

1.You can control as many people in the neighborhood as you want, but its not like the past sims where you are brought to neighborhood view and select the family to play. Instead you have an active household, but you can change it at anytime and it does not affect game play.
2.Other sims that are not part of the active household will continue to grow and learn. I’ve not seen anyone move out or buy new furniture yet on their own but I’ve placed alice and kev into the neighborhood and didn’t play them…kev got a girlfriend and a job without my interference. I’ve also heard of him having another child. (I believe there is an option to turn it off if one chooses)
3.Yes, you can actually roam the neighborhood freely. You can be invited into neighbors homes and actually go to town to shop or look for jobs. Its makes the game more interesting.

      • 37 Rico June 22, 2009 at 9:48 am

to response 2. from samantha. the current stop story mode option is currently bugged, EA are still working onto getting that fixed, but so far the story is going to be enabled for a while
        3. it does make it more interesting, but after a while it gets really boring with the same stuff, I wish they make an expansion pack already…

      • 38 Debra June 22, 2009 at 2:00 pm

Other sims that are not part of the active household will continue to grow and learn. I’ve not seen anyone move out or buy new furniture yet on their own

I have seen this. I put my husband’s family on a lot with no furniture. Then I put my family on a lot to play, so I could get us together as teens. The first time I went over there, they still didn’t have any furniture, but when I went back a week later, they had decorated the place very nicely.

By the way, I love this story. I’m hooked. I’ve been reading for a while, but this is my first post.

    • 39 Rico June 22, 2009 at 9:42 am

I have the responses to this ones here
      1. yeah you can only control one family, but you can always change the family of your choosing by going into edit town and near the lower left corner two houses are there and you can always change who you want to play
      2. they will move out and age (have said goodbye to a couple of sims, when that happens you get a -80 moddlet that sticks with you for 2 days,); but no they don’t change their housing, not that I know that for sure, but so far I don’t think they do, if anybody has seen that happen, maybe but so far no.
3.Have you even played the sims 3 or seen a trailer…..
4.Yeah shame on you!!!! (slaps silly.. then mocks… then gets JIGGY with it!!!

      • 40 Rebecca June 22, 2009 at 5:14 pm

In response to 2, one of my sims was getting all flirty with a guy who lived next door, and the next day when she went to visit him, it said no one lived there. I checked all the houses in the neighborhood, but there was no trace of him. I’m guessing the family moved out of town, but I really don’t know.

    • 41 GothPoet June 22, 2009 at 5:17 pm

In Reply to number one. When you change the active household, the former active one’s SIMs lose all their Wishes and Promises.

    • 42 Jules June 23, 2009 at 1:57 am

      answers to your questions:
      1. You can make at least 3 families playable at once, I don’t know the maximum. You may only control 1 family at once but you can have more than 1 saved game.
      2. Neighbors can age, but can’t do anything they couldn’t do if there wasn’t a person playing with them; for example, neighbors can’t go into buy or build mode.
      3. Yes you can. You can also bike and ride by car.
      4. okay, I visited. but i don’t like oblivion much. its not as good as TS3.

  7. 43 Samantha June 22, 2009 at 9:36 am

I’m glad we got to find out what happened here but I thought this was suppose to have happened the same night or at least before Kev met his new girlfriend.

and although I agree that Alice should buy herself a bed her last paycheck was spent on a charity and I bet even if she did, Kev would use it for himself.

  8. 46 Jackrabbit June 22, 2009 at 10:09 am

Aw, Alice. We feel for you sweetheart. Just put your mind to making enough money for a bed.

I’m… I’m going to stop speaking to a pile of pixels that doesn’t even have any access to me now.

  9. 47 Sean Nostin June 22, 2009 at 10:18 am

Are there robbers in Sims 3? Like there were in the previous games? Since there’s no house to put the bed in, there is a chance a robber could come and steal the bed she buys if she buys one.

    • 48 Debra June 22, 2009 at 2:03 pm

There are robbers. I had a robber come onto my homeless family’s lot, and she stole their candle.

      • 49 Fi June 22, 2009 at 4:22 pm

dude that is just the worst!!! omg how terrible! … but kinda funny… yeah i am SO going to hell…

    • 50 Lolly June 22, 2009 at 7:28 pm

When I put Alice and Kev in my game, they got robbed twice. First time he took Alice’s teddy, second time he took one of the benches.

    • 51 Jules June 23, 2009 at 3:01 am

yes, there are robbers. I got my house robbed the second night I spent playing. But it’s better, robbers don’t have to come in contact with a room near an alarm, the police just come when the robber outside if you have one. My heavy sleeper slept through the whole thing lol…

  10. 52 Sean Nostin June 22, 2009 at 10:27 am

By the way on that note, when can you start choosing career paths for the sims? is Alice too young? A criminal career path could suit her quite well. Anita’s abode looks prime for an initial foray into burgling.

    • 53 Jackrabbit June 22, 2009 at 10:37 am

That’s… An astonishingly good idea in terms of story drama, and creating believable characters. I’m all for it. But she does have the ‘good’ trait, so I doubt she’d go for it. Maybe Kev can? Although, this runaway granny might provide some income.

      • 54 Jaclyn June 22, 2009 at 3:36 pm

My Kev immediately wanted to join the criminal career, so I let him. You can’t start them on a career PATH until young adult, but they can have part time jobs. None of those are either criminal OR law enforcement.

    • 55 Noelley June 22, 2009 at 8:09 pm

I’m playing Alice (the teenage version) and Kev now. Kev lost his criminal career job because he didn’t bother to show up. Eventually he starved to death. As soon as he died, Alice was presented with her lifetime wish of becoming a surgeon.

  11. 58 Elfie June 22, 2009 at 10:27 am

I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to hug a Sim before. I don’t know how I feel about this.

  12. 59 Tyler June 22, 2009 at 11:14 am

This story really got to me when Alice stood up to her father for the first time and when she donated that money to charity.

And that picture of her holding an apple while watching that woman carry her baby into the warm house… Are you trying to break peoples hearts?

She’s just pixels and I really feel hopeful for her…

Ah well, it has inspired me to attempt a free will run of my own.

  13. 60 bizkit(f) June 22, 2009 at 11:40 am

Kev is such an @.. ! I can’t believe that he didn’t even had the backbone to let Alice know where he was at..! If he was my dad I would’ve strangled him a long time ago..! Even if I’m a female I would’ve done it properly… Lol, weird how this story have such a turnout..!

  14. 61 eucalypt111 June 22, 2009 at 11:49 am

    Dear Alice,

Try the gym. Nice shower. Nice food (at least there’s a fridge at the Sunset Valley gym) nice drinks- free and if you go upstairs there’s a nice TV.

    Forget the exercise!

    • 62 Samantha June 22, 2009 at 6:35 pm

i believe this story takes place in Riverview. Unfortunately the gym there has no fridge and no comfy lounge chairs. There are several apple trees in the area though…I believe there is even a park that has quite a bit of harvestable fruits and veggies near here park bench “home”.

  15. 63 GerandLer June 22, 2009 at 12:32 pm

    I luv alice and kev!!!!
Also, I have a question about sims 3:
is it worth buying if you already have sims 2? or are they similar enough not to make a difference?

    • 64 Celtia Windsinger June 22, 2009 at 1:24 pm

Yes, without a doubt you should buy Sims 3 if you’re out to buy a game.

The change between the Sims 2 and the Sims 3 was almost as large as the leap from Sims to Sims 2. That’s a big achievement.

With all-new neighborhood and “exploration” options, far more customizable sims, customizable furniture, customisable floor tiles, improved Free Will and AI, neighborhood aging, new careers, new skills, the ability to choose 5 out of more than 30 Traits rather than 1 out of 6 Apsirations…

The list goes on and on. If you likes the Sims 2, then get the Sims 3.

    • 67 Debra June 22, 2009 at 2:06 pm

It’s definitely worth it, imho, and they are not very similar because of the traits system and the open neighborhood.

    • 68 Jules June 23, 2009 at 3:05 am

no way the sims 3 and the sims 2 are totally different! i say you should sell your sims 2 either to a friend or on amazon or eBay… thats what i did.

  16. 69 Mythos June 22, 2009 at 12:41 pm

Kinda amazing how things went. First Alice’s life starts improving, then Kev gets a luck streak, and now Alice is as bad as she can get again.

    Boy, their karma’s a bitch.

  17. 70 Mythos June 22, 2009 at 12:41 pm

(Apologies for the language used in that last comment)

  18. 71 Kansine June 22, 2009 at 1:05 pm

I’m STILL loving this story, as I have said many times, and I’m really addicted to it 😀 Greatly inspired by this I started my own sims 3 story on my blog, it’s not about homeless people but a broke criminal family… 😛 It would be intresting to try homelessness too, but I don’t wat to be too similar 😀

  19. 77 Senyja June 22, 2009 at 1:16 pm

I think prostitution may be the only answer.

    • 78 raggiesoft June 22, 2009 at 2:47 pm

Interesting thought, too bad it’s not in the game

      • 79 GothPoet June 22, 2009 at 11:05 pm

You can sort of approximate it by making the SIM a Flirty Mooch. 😛

Perhaps even adding in Hopeless Romantic so they get their social interactions responded to easier.

  20. 80 2000may23 June 22, 2009 at 1:29 pm

To rico in post about the sims3,

Hey,IT DOES GET BORING!!!! i wish they would make a colonial times expansion 😦

  21. 82 DrA June 22, 2009 at 2:16 pm

Wow, great series. Alice is such a touching character.

Alice & Kev inspired me to try my own homeless family. I’m playing two aliens who were sent to study humans. They’re not very good at their jobs.

  22. 83 jakehh June 22, 2009 at 2:16 pm

That Anita is a real bitch face

  23. 84 OctaneHugo June 22, 2009 at 2:32 pm

Poor Alice, I guess karma doesn’t exist in The Sims.

  24. 85 SkyWorld June 22, 2009 at 3:00 pm

Man, I wish these weren’t so short… You used to post several a day, what happened to that?

Of course, the story itself is awesome. Poor Alice…

  25. 86 Andrew Gall June 22, 2009 at 4:00 pm

Alice’s plight sometimes stresses me out. Like today.

  26. 87 Becci June 22, 2009 at 4:40 pm

Wow this is really entertaining! Made the last hour of work fly by lol

Looking forward to the next one 🙂

  27. 88 Bob June 22, 2009 at 4:45 pm

lord almighty, why must you end them on cliffhangers all the time?

  28. 90 callaoressene June 22, 2009 at 5:34 pm

Is it wrong that I’m so frustrated that horrible horrible Kev is getting what he wants while his kind-hearted daughter is getting the shaft? *is far too invested*

  29. 91 Amber June 22, 2009 at 5:49 pm

Poor Alice. Anita needs to be a real friend, since the only other one she ever had was her Teddy. 😦

  30. 92 Mandy June 22, 2009 at 6:00 pm

WOW. that’s all I have to say! I started reading this blog a wk and a half ago and I luv it! I cnt wait till 2morow! can someone tell me if there are burglars in sims 3?? I’m getting my in 3 days!!! woohoo!

  31. 94 Grey Sky (Yesmy1standlastnamesarereal) lol June 22, 2009 at 6:14 pm

God, Alice! Drop freakin Anita! She’s a total jerk unless she has the ABSENT-MINDED trait! Which i’m guessing she doesn’t! Best case scenario for u is 2 save up for a trip to Sim California OR—- WAIT FOR EXPANSION PACKS ALICE! (You never know, we mite get Sims states instead of just minor towns, i mean we did have sim cities in Nightlife!)

    🙂 Peace OuT!

    Grey Sky

    • 95 SkyWorld June 22, 2009 at 6:19 pm

She must have Absent-Minded, because it mentioned on the ‘Anita’ page that she wandered away from her in a daze at some points.

  32. 96 Eric Richardville June 22, 2009 at 6:19 pm

I would have loved to see her have a good nights rest. Maybe Anita will change her mind about the whole thing.

  33. 97 Anna June 22, 2009 at 6:30 pm

I had Kev explore other community lots, and he found the Octagon museum is basically a living house- so he uses the couch to nap, and Alice was following him home before curfew (when she was a kid) and started using the facilities too.

  34. 98 Etalyx June 22, 2009 at 7:03 pm

These are way too short…nothing ever seems to get accomplished. Fun at first but now these are just toying with us.

  35. 99 Paige June 22, 2009 at 7:35 pm

I wonder if with Yvette around, will Alice and Kevs relationship change? If that happens Alice’s life will probabally change.

  36. 100 japanimummy June 22, 2009 at 7:56 pm

wonder if you’ve seen Homeless to Harvard?
I saw it on Hallmark channel yesterday.. Hope Alice gets a good nights rest soon. Poor Alice..

  37. 101 Casey June 22, 2009 at 7:59 pm

I absolutely think this is the cutest thing ever. I love the Sims (all of them) and totally wish I could do this story telling. I commend you on your creativity on these post. I definitely subscribe to the feed and will be reading everyday.

    Keep up the good work.

  38. 102 Jepp June 22, 2009 at 8:37 pm

Can’t wait for Alice to discover herself sexually.

  39. 105 John June 22, 2009 at 9:01 pm

when I put alice and kev in my neighborhood, I had a kid and a wife, I would visit alice once in awhile and It didn’t take to long to be enemies with kev, eventually, a baby appeared on the alice and kev lot and apperantly is kev’s son, I managed to get kev to send alice away to live with my family from then on ( used the merge families thing ) and when i checked on kev later the baby was gone and i found it with another family, eventually kev starved to death and i made sure alice became a doctor, the end

  40. 106 Setari June 22, 2009 at 9:10 pm

Awwwww!! Poor alice. Anita’s not a very good friend…

  41. 107 Sarah June 22, 2009 at 9:18 pm

Wow, poor Alice. i hope she finds a way to get a better life for herself as she grows older. She deserves it after this rough growing up phase.

  42. 108 Jesus June 22, 2009 at 9:18 pm

    Jepp. WTF!?

  43. 109 Karen June 22, 2009 at 9:40 pm

I hope Alice finds a real friend that always has her back. >_>; (best friend much?..boyfriend?)

🙂 Keep Going Robin Good JOB!

  44. 110 RA June 22, 2009 at 9:41 pm

I’ve only been following this for a couple days, but it gave me an idea. I work as a psychologist in a prison. I think I might pick up the game just to try and recreate my work environment. I have a friend who has this, and we talked out a prelimary scenario, and after 20 minutes the Warden, the three inmates, and the therapist were all miserable, the only one happy was the one guard who kept beating the inmates. I never thought Sims could be used in this kind of way.

  45. 111 Hunnypooh June 22, 2009 at 9:48 pm

Too bad apartments don’t exist in this game yet. She could save up to buy hopefully when she’s older.

  46. 112 Mark June 22, 2009 at 11:30 pm

I downloaded Alice and Kev into my game.

I check in on them from time to time as I ‘play with my other family’.

Alice and Kev are thriving in the default town. They are the only homeless ones in town, and hang out at the nice park. No competition!

They are getting good at Chess / Logic, and they mooch the random picnics for plenty of food. I leave them be. I’ll see how they do left to their own programming.

  47. 113 Donna June 22, 2009 at 11:53 pm

There are a few places that would be perfect for homeless Sims to frequent.

The garden park has a toilet and sink. A sponge bath will get you completely clean. A homeless Sim can harvest the produce.

The little pond where you can go fishing. There’s a barbecue area and bathroom facilities and benches.

The museum is basically a workable house with couch to sleep on and bathroom.

Sims 3 is really well suited to playing Sims without households. The only trouble is that teens and children will get taken home by the police so Alice wouldn’t be able to sleep at the museum without being found out.

  48. 114 Kayla June 23, 2009 at 12:07 am

Advice for Alice & Kev: Go to a community pool! Free showers, sinks and toilets! My Alice & Kev mostly live there, less worries! Also steal food from picnic baskets that are common in the parks. Free food! And gives them hope 🙂
    Good luck Bindivers!
    Kayla ❤

  49. 115 Yoong June 23, 2009 at 12:17 am

Dude… totally epic storyline you got here. Almost bust a leak in the ol’ eyesockets when I read that Alice donated her money to charity despite her condition.

You’re telling their story man. Kudos and you’ve got a fan in me!

  50. 116 Jo June 23, 2009 at 12:36 am

I love this blog! And am now subscribed.

To the other Sims 3 players out there–here’s a question: I created a second 4 person family to move into my town and played them a little bit and then separated that household into 2x 2 person households.

Then I went back to the original family and never bothered befriending any of the members in either of the second families, and now one of the pairs VANISHED! I mean I guess it’s possible they died, but they were both young (a teenager and a young adult) so I’m a little confused as to why they’re totally gone. Another pair are still alive and well and you can still see that their siblings are listed in the family tree although I have no idea where they are.

Could they have moved??? I looked around the town but didn’t notice anything.

Is there any way to track a specific Sim down?

    • 117 kansine June 23, 2009 at 11:30 am

When u have the story progression -setting on, that happens – sims simply move away, god knows where! That has happened to me too, sims totally vanish… 😦

    • 118 Paula June 25, 2009 at 3:03 pm

If you click on the missing peoples faces in the relationship panel you should have some option of contacting them, using the phone or calling them over. Maybe that’ll help?

  51. 119 Mandy June 23, 2009 at 1:17 am

when do u think alice will find true love??

  52. 121 borat June 23, 2009 at 1:36 am

this sounds kinda embarassing but robin are u a girl or a boy? I don’t mean 2 offend or anythin but robin is kinda a neutral name…again not tryin 2 offend.

  53. 123 penny June 23, 2009 at 1:37 am

save up lots of money for stuff like a bed and a frigde and other inportant stuff.

  54. 124 penny June 23, 2009 at 1:40 am

    yup probably the z guy,

  55. 125 Myles June 23, 2009 at 1:53 am

Another good chapter, although it could have used some extra length.

  56. 126 Jules June 23, 2009 at 4:16 am

hey, just an idea, but Alice should totally find a mate! that would be awesome! oh and she should save up for a telescope or something skillful so she can get a good job too!

  57. 128 Miso June 23, 2009 at 5:21 am

Did anyone ever tell you to become an author? You’re an amazing storyteller. But… your posting are getting SO much shorter. I really want to read!!!

  58. 129 Brittney June 23, 2009 at 6:30 am

Whatever happened to that Z guy, anyway??? He seemed pretty sympathetic, I’m sure he’d let her have the couch to sleep on for a couple hours….

  59. 130 Shannon June 23, 2009 at 6:47 am

I downloaded these two and have been playing them non-stop for the last three days. They finally have a small house that I built one room at a time as they earned money. Kev got married today to a woman as nuts as he is. They are both mean etc and work in the crime career. Alice is a young adult now and works as a cop. That makes the game so much fun when they’re all home together!

Alice has the lucky trait now and also the genius trait. Along with her loser, clumsy etc traits.

    They are so much fun!

  60. 131 Josh June 23, 2009 at 7:43 am
