Alice

Alice hated her father. After all he’d done to her in his life, that’s not really surprising. But he was still the only family she ever had, so nor is it surprising when his death leaves her an emotional wreck for days.

It will be some time before she finishes mourning, but when she does, I think things will be different for Alice. With Kev no longer periodically dropping by to wreck her self esteem, Alice will have a comparatively stable life. With her new job, she will be earning enough to start saving money, even with her spending on food and her charitable donations. There is still a long hard journey to be made if she wants to own a home of her own. But I think the worst of her life is behind her.

While she’s not quite living happily ever after, I think her future will be brighter but less eventful from here on. I feel it is a fitting place to end the story.

But of course, if you’ve cared for Alice while reading this, there’s no reason for her story to end for you. If you own The Sims 3, I invite you to download her to your game and carry on guiding her towards whatever happiness you think you can find for her.

This blog will still be host to things related to Alice and Kev in the future, so there is still reason to subscribe to the RSS feed or follow the twitter.

If you are tempted to buy The Sims 3 after reading this, consider supporting this blog by buying through these links to amazon.com or amazon.co.uk

If you’ve found this tale of homelessness affecting, remember there are a great many people living similar experiences around the world. Please consider helping a real-world charity.

Brilliant! i wish this was a coffee table book :)

    • 9 Kasey October 20, 2009 at 1:04 am

I am crying right now, that was a good ending, but sad. I love Alica and Kev. Ive never had something, a blog about fictional SIMS touch me so very much. But their is a lot of loose ends, what happens to Z? Etc. Robin, you have made the Sims 3 come alive.

      Rest In Peace, Kev.

      Good Luck, Alice.

Thank you for finishing this, upset it’s ending as I get goosebumps thinking about Alice donating all the wages to charity but glad it was completed.

  3. 11 Shayne October 11, 2009 at 12:38 am

Wow. It’a been an interesting kourney, reading this. I’m sad to see it end, but it has to end somewhere. R.I.P Alice and Kev

Big smiles here. Three cheers for roBurky!

  5. 17 Crilly October 11, 2009 at 12:47 am

This is story is brilliant. With just pictures and words, you have made me cry. (I hardly cry to fictional characters.)roBurky, you are one of the best writers ever! Hope you write something similar!

  6. 18 Kristen October 11, 2009 at 12:48 am

Beautiful! I’m glad it is a (somewhat) happy ending and I will be downloading Alice to play in my town on the Sims 3. Thanks for sharing this wonderful story with all of us!

  7. 19 Gregory October 11, 2009 at 12:53 am

I think you found the perfect way to end this tale, and I thank you for it. The last two pictures wrap it up nicely, and I wouldn’t change a note of this story.

Thank you for sharing Alice and Kev with us.

  8. 20 Tatiana October 11, 2009 at 12:54 am

That was a sweet ending. I love the final panel with the hot air balloon and the flock of birds flying. It seems symbolic of something, maybe of the peace Alice can finally have in her life with Kev gone. Maybe just of aspirations and explorations in her life, and hopefully some sort of achievement.

I worry about Alice because she’s poorly educated, she has a lot of healing to do from her upbringing and her chaotic childhood. Will she be attracted to guys who are somewhat abusive and crazy like her father was? Will she crave drama and conflict in her life even as it settles down, so that she tends to seek out less stable situations? I hope not.

It seems unlikely that she ever bonded with anyone as a child, unless it was her teddy bear. That could cause her a lot of problems with relationships in the future. I hope that she’s able to sort through all that, to find some sort of pillar of hope, stability, love, and goodness in her life.

If we, watching this fictional story, feel our hearts go out to Alice, I can only imagine how much our Heavenly Father, watching our very real trials and sorrows, loves us and grieves for us. Or how much joy he takes in our happiness. May Alice feel somehow inside her fictional universe the love of Roburkey, her creator, and of we who mourn and celebrate with her.

I was so happy when she exulted over her promotion. It nearly broke my heart with joy.

Thanks, Robin, for a great story!

a lovely ending for alice, after all she did deserve it :-D

Great job. You’ve managed to touch so many people with the story of two fictional characters. Your story writing abilities are great, and I wish you the best of success in your future endeavors.

I hope Alice manages to turn her life around.

  18. 34 katie October 11, 2009 at 1:33 am

can you include an epilogue by showing us what happens to alice later? like if she ever marries and have kids?

    • 35 Mariia October 11, 2009 at 3:58 am

I understand what you mean, but the blog has to end somewhere. This is the perfect time to end it, even if it doesn’t seem like it. If he ends it right after Alice has kids (if she does) then you would be posting the same thing. Just saying :D

      • 36 Rodents210 October 11, 2009 at 7:20 am

If it matters any, I did download them, and Alice moved in with Zedadias Wick, married him, and had one son named Felix to represent that she really was lucky in the end. Since both Alice and Zedadias have grown into the Adult stage of life, I got them new clothes that look much like their old ones but are more mature (and in Alice’s case, less ratty). Zedadias is currently a Snitch in the Law Enforcement career and Alice is a Resident in the Medical career.

        :)

Well done. Thanks for a great story.

  26. 45 Doc October 11, 2009 at 2:06 am

It’s not often that someone would have the gall to publicly take a pro-homeless, pro-suffering stance, but it’s what I aim to do in this multi-part rich argument.

While the tale of Alice and Kev (just Alice, now – how darkly amusing) may have affected the emotions of some weak readers, my iron-clad limbic system has ignored the faux emotion of the story and passed the logic on. Are any of you in favor of communism? No?

Because if you’re against having a lower class of society, you’re communists! The second one person rises above another person, we get capitalism. Sure, it’s sad that people are homeless, but it’s a necessary evil that’s a result of the computers you’re using, the cushy lives you’re living.

What sick, twisted minds must favor stories such as these, subconsciously realizing my point yet being too inactive and too gutless to even take a pro-communist stance. Poor Alice? Poor you for not being smart enough to realize that your emotions are being subtly played at the hands this “RoBurky”!

I implore you, gutless, brainless commentators: do NOT give to charities. Each donation is a step toward communism. And when you step toward communism, you step toward Hitler.

Dr. William Monty Hughes, III, Esq., Ph.D., IQ 215

    “Cogito Ergo Sum”

    • 46 missplet October 11, 2009 at 2:18 pm

Wow, you couldn’t be more wrong if you tried!

First, “do NOT give to charities. Each donation is a step toward communism”

Are you kidding? Charity is an anti-socialist conceit, since it relieves the government of its responsibility to look after its people. By giving to charity you are aiding the capitlaist system, not ushering in a communist revolution.

I assume you’re American, given your fear of communists and complete lack of knowledge of anything else happening anywhere else in the world.

Homelessness is not a necessary evil. Most Western European countries are based on the principles of social democracy, wherein you have elements of socialism within a capitalist framework. In practice that means things like universal healthcare and social housing for those that need it.

There are still homeless people, but it is not a necessary evil. Neither is it a threat to capitalism. Check out the standard of living in Sweden as proof of that.

      • 47 Mouchas October 18, 2009 at 11:09 pm

Hey, I’m American – that makes me a fear living of communists, don’t no sh*& going on in the world!

      • 48 Mouchas October 18, 2009 at 11:20 pm

FYI – Jane Addams was the first Social worker (google it) and oh, guess what – she’s American. You can thank her for the health / social housings we have today.

    • 49 Pam October 11, 2009 at 3:28 pm

      @”Doc” -

Do you honestly believe you are impressing anyone here with your rhetoric spewing? I find it difficult to believe that you are college educated, much less that you carry a Ph.D. You have embarrassed yourself in a public forum because most everyone here thinks you are an idiot. Being kind to your fellow man does NOT encourage communism, and you are seriously misguided if you think so.

To suggest that showing compassion is a “step toward Hitler”, is one of the most ridiculous, backwards, uneducated, ignorant statements I have ever read – and believe me, I’ve read a few.

Go back to your hole in the ground, or the rock you crawled out from under. No one here wants to hear your foolishness and hate.

    • 50 meezletoe October 11, 2009 at 7:56 pm

Everyone…he’s right. Compassion is Communist! After all, the concept of communism did come before giving to the poor, sharing with your neighbors, and even love-love-love. Stop loving people! It’s communist! Sharing knowledge?! – communist! Empathy – communist! God is communist! Stop going to church (and for Capitalism’s sake, stop putting money in that basket!)
If you don’t embrace Greed, you’re being unpatriotic! In order to secure our society’s great democracy, our constitution’s promise to protect our rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness (or property) and have a stable economy, we must embrace a totalitarian state of mind! Which means rejecting all aspects of communism, the good (hah!) and the bad (rawr)!
Though I always thought that Hitler was Fascist and hated Communism, but, well, you’re the one with the Ph.D, right? :D After all, it’s in your signature (why’d you include Descartes in there though – I don’t see the correlation).

Anywayz…I might have gotten off-topic. What I meant to say was:
      WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! ALIIIIICE….T_T It’s oooover ~~
Siz a good ending. T_T *nods*

    • 51 Doc October 11, 2009 at 8:07 pm

You people DO realize I’m joking, right? The whole thing was an obvious joke. You don’t need to…y’know, care.

      • 52 Nina October 11, 2009 at 8:27 pm

Oh Doc, if you really believe that was an obvious joke then you haven’t encountered most of the Internet.

      • 53 Blue Tiger October 11, 2009 at 10:38 pm

Probably the least funny joke I’ve ever heard. There are a lot of people who are extremely sensitive about this issue.

      • 54 Arca October 15, 2009 at 12:42 am

I have to say that Meezletoe’s version was much funnier than your attempt. :P

      • 55 ali November 22, 2009 at 4:52 am

took me a second, but yes, i figured it out eventually. It’s not very good joke, especially since hardly anyone realized it was. It was a bit insensitive if you ask me.
But hey, that’s just my opinion.

    • 56 Doc October 11, 2009 at 10:58 pm

I was making fun of homeless people in the same way RoBurky was making a game out of their lives. You could take it literally either way, but the joke was at the expense of pseudo-intellectual douchebags, not poor people.

      • 57 meezletoe October 12, 2009 at 12:04 am

Hmm. If it was a joke *strokes chin*, then I think I get it. I definitely got off-topic in my rant there anyway. It’s all because of Moooo drama.
I think the joke is a bit too complicated for me. Sorry. -_-; And here I was thinking I’d just gotten the hang of satire. I’m gonna have to re-read that comment a couple times. XD

      • 58 meezletoe October 12, 2009 at 12:14 am

Still though, it’s a bit ironic. For me too. We’re all sitting quite comfortably in our chairs I’m sure. How people react to homelessness in their private lives is the point I think..?

      • 59 Jackrabbit October 12, 2009 at 7:30 am

I got it, if it’s any help.

        It’s not?Oh.

    • 60 woodenemus October 12, 2009 at 6:29 pm

You are such a midget major, Doc! You emu!

    • 61 Kayla C October 13, 2009 at 3:42 am

      To Doc:

Was it truly necessary for you to put “Esq., Ph.D., IQ 215″ after your name? Your opinion still means nothing to me, no matter how many titles you hold.

A person could go to a million colleges, learn everything there is to know, and still be one of the most ignorant people on this planet. You are the exact epitome of this.

    • 63 Rich October 13, 2009 at 1:06 pm

I laughed my ass off, don’t worry. Srsly people, if you can’t spot that someone signing Dr. Esq. PhD. IQ 215 is joking, you need to get a real doctor to put a cast on your broken funnybone.

    • 67 Ryann October 21, 2009 at 9:20 am

Is it even possible to have an IQ of 215?

      • 68 ali November 22, 2009 at 4:44 am

the highest iq ever recorded (atleast I think it is) is 228. So yes, it’s possible, but not likely. Doc was joking about that

  27. 69 Reid October 11, 2009 at 2:11 am

Thanks for using The Sims 3 so imaginitively to such a great effect. It’s a wonderful, unusual way to have played the game, and not only has it resulted in a genuinely touching story, but also made me question what is really possible within games.

  28. 70 Chad17 October 11, 2009 at 2:11 am

Awesome, in the kind of way that makes your heart warmer.
I really love what you did with the ending.

  31. 73 Gerard Delaney October 11, 2009 at 2:18 am

Great job with this story and an excellent idea to offer up Alice for download. A great way to include people in the end of the story

  32. 74 Katie October 11, 2009 at 2:26 am

I loved Alice and Kev from the beginning, but I must say I’ve been highly disappointed with the past several posts. It’s a pity to see, what began as a great tale about homelessness in a virtual world, end in such a fashion. :(

  33. 75 Daniel October 11, 2009 at 2:30 am

    Thanks =)
    Terrific.

  34. 76 Kite October 11, 2009 at 2:30 am

I like the way this ended :) I’m glad there’s hope for Alice to have a better life.

  35. 77 Katie October 11, 2009 at 2:39 am

    The End.

Sad to see it go but so happy that you shared these bizarre little lives with us. Thank You!

  36. 78 LadyRose October 11, 2009 at 2:45 am

That was a very fitting ending.
But I can’t wait to have an Alice and Kev of my own…I plan to make a family with a little boy and his single mom that Alice can grown up with, and marry. So she can have at least one friend as a child, more importantly one who understands what it’s like to be homeless.
Kev…I may just let Kev be Kev on a plot fo his own, far away from his daughter. or I might just kill him off the second Alice hits her teen years. >:)

I really can’t wait to play this homeless challenge with the world adventures expansion, because they’ll be tents which would makes things a touch easier for homeless sims everywhere.

Thank you, RoBurky, for an entertaining story and ideas for later experimentation in the sims 3.

  37. 79 YLAU October 11, 2009 at 2:57 am

    Been a great journey.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share Alice and Kev’s story. I have really enjoyed reading each entry of this blog since it started. You are a very talented storyteller. I’m sad to see this blog end, but I think Alice is going to be okay.

  39. 81 Leonardo Alcantara October 11, 2009 at 3:14 am

I have to be honest and tell I don’t even like The Sims…but this story is a lot more than the liking or not the game itself…it is amazing how such few pictures with the right text (both in amount and in quality) can make you think things over.

Alice and Kev were one of the best stories I’ve ever had the opportunity to read and I’m very glad that you have shared this over to everyone. It is astouning how the story twists and the happines and anger it contains can move so many people.

I believe this only goes to show the amazing texts you have provided us with and my hat is off for you my friend!

Hope you do drop by sometimes to let us know how Alice is doing altough she is just bytes of information contained in your computere we (and I’ll include everyone who reads this blog) really care about her! So let us know if she finds out the love of her life, marries and have a couple of kids of her own… I’m sure she will make an excellent mother.

    Regards,
    Leo

  44. 86 quanta1000 October 11, 2009 at 3:31 am

Great ending and story roBurky! Amazing! It’s a perfect way of closing it but leaving space to wonder what is going to happen! And then, with that, we can download her! I hope you had loads of fun and your future is very bright for you.

  45. 87 Mariia October 11, 2009 at 3:53 am

Aww, I didn’t get first comment, well anyways ignore my childish comment. I really love this blog, I remember a couple days after it started there was a advertisement on the Sims 3 official site, and I checked it out. I’m definitely not sorry I did. It’s a inspirational blog, it’s awkward to say that about virtual characters. In the Sims 3 you get so attached to your characters though, I think it’s because of the trait system. During the month-long hiatus I lost my connection with the characters, so I wasn’t very affected by any of the posts since. I do not mean that in a rude way, it’s just my opinion. Since Kev’s death most people are starting to feel sorry for him, I have since the blog started because I have a step-sibling with schizophrenia and my grandmother was very poor as a child. I know Kev didn’t have a mental- illness, but he had as much of a mental- illness you could have in the Sims 3. Truly inspirational blog in total though roBurky. Congratulations, you deserve it.

Hmm.. what does “This blog will still be host to things related to Alice and Kev in the future” mean? Is there going to be an epilogue or something?

Great story, thanks so much for the entertainment. :)

  50. 94 Jackrabbit October 11, 2009 at 7:56 am

Hooray! A perfect place to end the story and just a great time all round. Thank you for this RoBurky. It really was a great ride (told you I’d use that line).

Oh, and thanks for everyone else for not totally losing their rag with me.

  51. 96 Greg October 11, 2009 at 8:04 am

Any chance we could get the Sim 3 file of Alice as she is now, at this moment?

    Thanks.

    • 97 roBurky October 11, 2009 at 10:46 am

Yes, you can. She’s on the download page, as ‘Adult Alice from the end of the story’.

      Alternatively, you can click here.

      • 98 meezletoe October 11, 2009 at 7:58 pm

Hey roBurky…Is that icon a picture of yoor eye? :o

      • 99 Blue Tiger October 11, 2009 at 10:42 pm

Somehow I doubt it. I wonder how hard it is to take a picture of your own eye…

RoBurky, do you read all of the comments on your posts so that you can reply to them? Because there are about 10000 comments on here.

      • 100 roBurky October 23, 2009 at 8:43 am

        @meezletoe

No, it is not my own eye. I used to use a picture of my own eye for avatar pics and icons and such, but it was a very small and low quality image, so I switched to this one when I started to use some websites that asked for much larger avatar images.

Thanks for this time! I really enjoyed it. I hope Alice’s life turns out to be fantastic, as she deserve, in the non-real-world.
Great work with putting this story togheter, and for the great idea!
Good luck with your real life, roBurky.
    With wishes from Sweden

Thankyou for sharing (and finishing) this story with us all. I hope that it has in some way helped open many people’s eyes about homelessness and other issues.

  55. 106 leeder_krenon October 11, 2009 at 9:15 am

thanks for such a good blog.

  56. 107 Michael October 11, 2009 at 9:32 am

Wonderful ending, thankyou for the blog it was entertaining, poinant and funny.

Such a shame the world will never see the like of Kev’s Ninja bin-kicking skills again!

    • 108 PKM October 12, 2009 at 11:57 am

Are you kidding? Watch any high street in a British town for an hour on a saturday night and I almost guarantee that you will see a drunk person kick a bin. Sadly they usually don’t have the “Insane” trait to blame it on.

  57. 109 Nicole October 11, 2009 at 9:33 am

Thank you. That was a great story. You pushed the limits of what can be done with today’s games. Entertaining and sometimes rather realistic. It tells you how much games have progressed – in terms of being able to teach us a few things here and there.

I’ll look forward to whatever you have in store in the future. It was a pleasure to read.

  58. 110 Evil Jim October 11, 2009 at 9:39 am

Thank you for sharing this story all the way through. It’s even more remarkable to me that it was written largely by a computer. I’ll keep checking back to see what other related material comes up to supplement the site.

  59. 111 Sol Invictus October 11, 2009 at 9:58 am

Thanks for creating such a witty, heartwarming, emotionally engaging story.

  60. 112 Yan October 11, 2009 at 10:34 am

Thank you so much for the great story! :D

  61. 113 Tanja October 11, 2009 at 10:40 am

A beautiful end, though I must say I find it rather funny, because I downloaded her for my game and just had her and her dad live in the game while I played my family, when I met teen Alice later in the game, she had other traits, more lucky traits actually and her father and her lived in a tiny house…

A shame your alice didn’t have as much luck as the one I had (though mine was always sobbing)

  62. 114 Fritjof October 11, 2009 at 11:07 am

Such a perfect ending… Bravo, that was and incredible story! Thank you very much.

  63. 115 Daniel October 11, 2009 at 11:15 am

I demand this be bound and published as a book (naturally with permission from EA). It is simply too great not to.

  64. 117 Dizzy October 11, 2009 at 11:47 am

This is such a brilliant story, really well told. All the effort put in to this has been greatly appreciated by everyone. Thank you very much!
Also reading this blog started my Sims 3 obsession! :)

    That was a fantastic story.
But all good things have to come to an end, I suppose.
Brilliant writing and pictures. I’ll be sure to tell my friends so they can read this too.

    Long live
    Alice and Kev.

  68. 121 Jewel2D October 11, 2009 at 1:34 pm

It has been years since she’d passed by the park. At first she’d avoided it for the pain it brought, but finally it just wasn’t part of her world anymore. Zane held her hand and made his eyes dip and rise as his lips curled in an attempt to make her laugh. It caused her to stifle a giggle which instantly brought a smile to both their faces.

She walked across the park to an old bench. It has seen much better days, and much worse. As she sat down she lifted Zane and put him in her lap. He cuddled against her and held her arm close to him like a pillow and blanket all rolled into one.

“There once was a man Zane, a man named Kevin and he was the meanest, nastiest man you could ever wish to met. But what the man was hiding, what the man kept, was more love then any man could ever wish to hold. He just held it so close and so tight that all that he let go of was the bad stuff. But more then anything, he wanted to share what he was holding with someone special. That someone was his daughter. This is the story of how he learned to let go and how she learned how to see it…”

    —-

Just something that popped in my head after reading this last entry. Thank you so much for sharing their story with us.

  69. 122 Phoebe October 11, 2009 at 1:50 pm

Hi, I thought the Alice and Kev story has been wonderful. Very interesting and thought provoking…

I would like to answer one of the comments posted here. I do not think it is communist/ fascist to give to charity or to live in a society that helps people out. I live in a country, the UK, where we have decided that most of those people in need should be provided with some sort of accommodation and some money so they can eat and pay basic bills, and have mostly free healthcare. I personally feel we could do more to help and empower people to change their lives, and so I work with homeless young people in part to make a difference.

    Thank you again..

  70. 123 Lisa October 11, 2009 at 2:01 pm

Thank you so much for sharing the story of Alice and Kev with us. I have added their household to almost every neighborhood I have created in Sims 3 just because I grew so fond of them, and loved the diversity of having homeless sims in my world(s). In each neighborhood, they had different experiences and met different families and always added an element of surprise. Your blog was so enjoyable to read, and your relevant screenshots have inspired me in my own blogging and storytelling. Much luck to you in all you do!

  71. 124 Sara October 11, 2009 at 2:09 pm

is that the final? (im sorry but if it is I am soo surprised it took that long to make!) it was very beautiful though

aw, it’s so sad that you’ll quit writing about her but also a perfect ending..

  76. 129 Jessica October 11, 2009 at 2:59 pm

I loved your blog!!!!! I dont know if i missed it but what is Alice’s five trait? Great job!

    • 130 roBurky October 11, 2009 at 3:21 pm

When she became an adult, I discovered that I must have accidentally closed the trait window without selecting one when she became a teenager. So I gave her the ‘unlucky’ trait at adulthood, meaning she has ended up with only four traits.

      • 131 Chad17 October 12, 2009 at 1:09 am

I hate it when that happens. I once got a kid with three traits only LOL!

      • 132 Sciffy Circo October 23, 2009 at 7:20 pm

I was thinking, if I ever download and start a younger version, rather than the young adult Alice I did, or I do the “midlife crisis” thing, I would give Alice “Insane” to see how it played out. I’m aware that sometimes, mental illness is first discovered and diagnosed between ages 18-25. It’s not always inherited though. I have many friends and loved ones with bipolar mood disorder, and I’m told even if both parents have it, the chances of a child inheriting is 1 in 4. I’m not sure what the chances of ADHD are, but my daughter inheritited from her father.

Heck, if I ever give Alice any biological kids, I think I’ll give at least one of them Insane and/ or Inappropriate. She does want to be surrounded by family, but I may adopt a few. I mean, should I REALLY make Alice grow up to be barefoot and pregnant all the time? Send her to fertility clinics? Adopt? Well, it is her wish to be surrounded by family… Do we play Nature vs. Nurture? Or do some of each? Hrm…

I’d like to see Alice star in Nature vs. Nurture. :)

  77. 133 rabassa1 October 11, 2009 at 3:21 pm

yay she’s calling zedadias!!! i hope anyway

    deffo downloading them

  78. 134 Unmoved October 11, 2009 at 3:22 pm

I have to agree with what Katie said up top. I have always loved this blog, but it seems that when Roburky got back from the break, it was rushed to the end of what previously had been an incredibly written story. I am disappointed and unmoved by this ending. But thats just one persons opinion.

  79. 135 heather October 11, 2009 at 3:38 pm

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA im miss you :( (((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((

  80. 136 Warren October 11, 2009 at 4:09 pm

Well done, Rob. I feel like I knew Alice and Kev. I think you’ve managed to create an early example of what the future will see as art.

    • 137 medleymisty October 11, 2009 at 4:46 pm

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately.

I certainly consider my Sims story as art. And when it’s done I am going to try and write a full text version, and people’s reactions to that made me think.

Some people seem to think that Sims stories are somehow “lesser” and aren’t as valid as straight text. And they also seem to be allergic to the idea of using the pictures from the game to help tell the story. And this is people who use the game for their stories, which makes me scratch my head. Why use the game at all if you feel that way about it?

Anyway….I do think that Sims stories are an art form.

  81. 138 Niki October 11, 2009 at 4:15 pm

I’ve followed your story from the beginning. Thank you for sharing it with us. :)

  82. 139 sfury October 11, 2009 at 4:35 pm

    Wow, so many comments! o_O

But it’s been a great run and I guess everyone wants to say bye.

So here’s a “thank you” from me too, roBurky, and good luck in your next endeavor. Also keep us posted! :)

  83. 140 Gamermama October 11, 2009 at 4:40 pm

Great ending! Thanks for taking the time to share Alice & Kev!!

  84. 141 Chad17 October 11, 2009 at 5:24 pm

This blog will still be host to things related to Alice and Kev in the future, so there is still reason to subscribe to the RSS feed or follow the twitter.

DOES THIS MEAN IT MAY CONTINUE?!?!?!?!?!?

    YAHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  85. 142 worldwaffle October 11, 2009 at 5:57 pm

Thanks roburky. I would never think a game developer could write.

See y’all everyone! It’s been a fun ride.

  86. 143 anit1983 October 11, 2009 at 6:26 pm

Thank you for such a beautiful story. I’m sad to see it’s over.

  87. 144 Purple October 11, 2009 at 6:47 pm

Wow, that was an incredible story! I hope Alice really does have a better life!

  88. 145 meezletoe October 11, 2009 at 8:00 pm

Thaank you roBurky…For breaking my heart and putting it back together again with a hammer :’(. But that was a great story :D . You *poit*, I am sure, have had an interesting experience as well.

  89. 148 Kozz October 11, 2009 at 8:24 pm

Bravo, roBurky. Thank you for not only conceiving of this idea in Sims 3, but for your narrative as we followed the virtual lives of Alice & Kev.

I, like many I’m sure, discovered the blog partway through the story. I went back and began reading from the very start… through all the heartache, embarrassment, shame, pride, loneliness and misunderstanding experienced by Alice & Kev. And I watched and waited while the story was on hiatus, knowing that it would be well worth the wait. And I was right!

So again, I say BRAVO. Thanks so much for what you’ve written.

  90. 149 Blue Tiger October 11, 2009 at 10:57 pm

There are so many comments on here that I guess no one will ever read mine, but I want to post it anyway.

First: Thank you for the most beautiful and moving blog I have ever read (I don’t read a lot of blogs because most aren’t interesting to me).
I wish Sims stories could be made into books. This would be a bestseller.

Also, I had no idea how emotionally complicated The Sims could be. Sims were always just those funny little people who talked in nonsense words and threw tantrums when they were hungry. But Alice’s donation of her first paycheck to charity and Kev’s attempt to make amends before he died… This story really made me feel for the little virtual people, which in turn made me feel for all of the people, whether I know them or not, who seem not to matter in my life.

    They’re all people.

    Even if they are Sims.

  91. 151 A_J_9_8 October 12, 2009 at 12:35 am

I can’t believe I grew so attacthed to this story.I know it sounds dumb, but I learned alot from reading this story. It was amazing to a fault. You have amazing talents RoBurky. You could do so much with.I will miss Alice and Kev.I will miss Zed.And I will even miss Shirley.Goodbye,RoBurky.All good things must come to an end.

i don’t want the story to end:( but great story annnywayyys :)

  93. 153 Chad17 October 12, 2009 at 1:11 am

I downloaded her as she was now, and then once I saw Kev’s grave, I noticed it said this:

    Here lies Kev, somewhat missed.

    LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!
    SOMEWHAT!!!!
Oh yeah, I killed Shirley and Roxie so Alice has Zed all to herself! ;)

  94. 154 Kevin October 12, 2009 at 2:35 am

i bet there will be a halloween update : Kev’s Surprise Visit : can anyone else imagine that?

  95. 155 vigilantsims October 12, 2009 at 2:39 am

This was such a great story! I enjoyed it so much, and read it everyday after I found it that you posted. I really hope you’ll start a new series soon, but you may have a hard time catching people the same way you did with this. Still, I hope you try. But there are people living in all sorts of hard conditions and I would- (not sure how to say this) enjoy reading how you would depict these different situations.

  96. 156 Cody October 12, 2009 at 2:39 am

Thank you so much for this great, and touching story.

    God bless.

  104. 164 universalandparticular October 12, 2009 at 8:43 am

Thank you for great story and especially for helping ‘homeless people ‘ this way. I learnt a lot from your style of writing. ALthough I write differently I have the same goal: to reach to people all around the globe and make the aware, connect with them, make them feel and think again.
I would be very happy if you find time to explore some of my stories and let me know what you think.
I have two more blogs as well: http://hubpages.com/hub/So-much-makes-sense-once-we-get-the-connections

  105. 165 Jessica October 12, 2009 at 10:16 am

I sat down with my husband once the final entry came out and we read through from start to finish.

    Intentionally NOT reading the commentary.

The story is consistent in quality and style from start to finish, and it ends in a well-rounded and natural way.

I would encourage you to turn it into hardcopy and try and publish it as a book, turning the profits partially or totally to charity. The characters are touching and genuine and the pictures are very expressive. I personally would purchase that book and read it to my children when they were pre-teens to encourage conversations about people who are less fortunate or otherwise ‘different’ and to help teach them compassion and thoughtfullness.

I am thrilled that I came here all those months ago, and more at peace with how the whole thing happened now that I’ve gone through the story once more with a focus on the story and not on the several hundred thoughts from random internet people per entry.

Bravo, RoBurky. It was amazing and I will definitely keep an eye for anything from you in the future.

    Thank you.

  106. 166 Graham D Pilling October 12, 2009 at 10:36 am

  112. 172 Simon Smith October 12, 2009 at 5:57 pm

That was really rather touching. Very well done. But you’ve set the bar so high I don’t think my own playing about could ever match it. Darn you to heck!

  113. 173 Alisa October 12, 2009 at 6:22 pm

Thank you for such a wonderful blog! I expect great things from you :)

  114. 174 ricketybridge October 12, 2009 at 6:37 pm

I got chills, man. This story has been really beautiful. I’m soooo inspired to do my own Sims blog, and being able to download Alice is such a cool idea. ;-)

  115. 175 Arshei October 12, 2009 at 6:37 pm

I just wanted to say thanks so much for creating this awesome story I really enjoyed reading the storyline and progression. I have seen where you have the characters available for download but I was wondering if you also had the lot where they lived available as well? I’m sad to see it end but it was really good. Thanks again!

  116. 177 Requienna October 12, 2009 at 7:46 pm

Great story, great ending! It couldn’t have been better. Thank you very much, roBurky!

By the way, is there a possibility to not only download the lot with Alice on it, but the whole neigborhood as it was at the point of Kev’s death? I mean, did you upload something like the whole savegame?

  117. 180 PenTa October 12, 2009 at 8:34 pm

    _O_

Hail to a work of beauty.
Probably just one of a kind,
May the universe be generous and gift us with more of these works of art.
I’m not just talking about Robin.
I’m not just talking about Sims’ stories.
    I’m talking to the world.
These stories, published on blogs, to me, are a new form of art.
An mixture of literature, and visual arts.
    To all who might hear:
Tell the world about the tragedy,
    Of Alice,
    And Kev.

Dude, you had me crying by the end.

  118. 181 tipix7 October 12, 2009 at 8:58 pm

It was simply written, very observant and drew you in.
    Bravo and well done.

  121. 184 angelzzzdaydream0 October 13, 2009 at 1:29 am

I absolutely loved this story! It was so touching. I have downloaded Alice and Zeb and will be sure to give them a place in my town. I guess I really route for the underdog! Great job! Thanks for such a wonderful story! Huggs! =o)

  122. 185 Akaso October 13, 2009 at 2:18 am

    Cool story, bro.

…No, seriously, that was a really good story. I’m glad I stuck with it. Thank you.

  123. 186 David October 13, 2009 at 2:31 am

Thanks for sharing the story and the family for download. I downloaded the Kev and child Alice and played them in my game. However, I had Constance Shelly adopt Alice and eventually she became leader of the free world.

  124. 187 Becki October 13, 2009 at 3:17 am

I just found this today through a link on Facebook. I loved it! Really awesome story and characters.

I also noticed in your profile on your website, you mentioned having worked with kids who have autism. As someone with Asperger Syndrome myself, I just wanted to say I appreciate that you helped them. =D

  125. 188 Erika October 13, 2009 at 3:27 am

I’m sad to see it end but I thank you so very much for sharing a very moving, sometimes funny, sometimes heartbreaking and always enthralling story with us.

You did a marvelous job with Alice and Kev!

  126. 189 rubybastille October 13, 2009 at 6:17 am

Thanks for sharing a great experiment and a thought-provoking story!

  127. 190 meezletoe October 13, 2009 at 7:06 am

Ahhhh XD I see! I like anything confusing, but I think I prefer people not knowing just cause their opinion kinda changes according to it. Since sometimes it’s surprising too….
And yes, I’ve heard of girls named Robin here in the states (never met one I think o_o). *points at you* YOU SIR ARE MUCH MORE MISCHIEVOUS THAN I’D THOUGHT!! *runs off and gets struck by lightning* (jk)

  128. 191 Adoryble October 13, 2009 at 7:42 am

Awesome story. Great way to end things. Thanks for taking the time to do this!

  129. 192 Ashley October 13, 2009 at 10:45 am

Goodness, my heart went with Alice through her whole life! This was an epic story! Like a roller coaster. I enjoyed every moment of it! Good Job!

  130. 193 JanetC October 13, 2009 at 1:28 pm

Thank you for the journey that this blog has taken both us and yourself on.

I wish you well in your study and hope the seeds sown here will continue to grow.

    God bless you.

    Journey onwards.

  131. 194 fingirl12 October 13, 2009 at 2:28 pm

Bravo. :) though it has ended, i think you’ve done a wonderful job! :) thank you for sharing this with us1 :)

  132. 195 nici October 13, 2009 at 3:50 pm

While I enjoyed reading this I find it a little odd that the story was abruptly halted when you announced you could no longer handle the pressure of writing a blog, then decided you could, only to bring us all back for 3 more updates and a finale. The last 3 updates weren’t worth the anticipation that was built up during this time. You should have just ended it there.

    • 196 roBurky October 13, 2009 at 4:33 pm

That’s kind of what I was attempting to do, but I wanted to do something better than abruptly discontinuing it. After I realised I couldn’t continue the blog in the way that I had been, I started trying to find an ending that would make sense and be satisfying.

  133. 197 Molly October 13, 2009 at 4:55 pm

Thanks for the story, I really enjoyed it.

    Lovely ending.

  134. 198 simsample October 13, 2009 at 9:38 pm

Thanks, Robin- I really had fun reading this. And you’ve inspired a lot of people to play the game in a similar way, too. :)

  135. 199 Dylan October 13, 2009 at 11:39 pm

I hope you may decide later to make another Sims 3 blog. You are such a great writer

I find it rather weird that so many people were digitally abusing Kev earlier, but now are going, “Poor Kev. Poor Kev. I’ll miss Kev. I don’t think Kev should have died.” Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
How very arrogant of us, don’t you think?
Me, I liked Kev. His utter bizarreness and weird passions always made me laugh and he distracted me from the heartbreak that this story is full of. I think Kev is the somewhat evil random corner of a person’s personality. We ALL have a bit of Kev in us, and in some people it’s just more pronounced.
Farewell, Kev. May you bring your weirdness with you to the Great Digital Beyond. We will all miss you.
(But I still think you kind of deserved it.)

Bwahahah.. Now she shall get a house and get married and have children and work somewhere else than a grocery store… :D

  138. 203 panther0567 October 14, 2009 at 5:31 am

I’ll miss these stories, they were very touching, and I thought it was great that you are also linking to homeless charities. :) LONG LIVE ALICE AND KEV!

  139. 204 Mewka October 14, 2009 at 10:43 am

I kinda understand. It takes so much time for you to make this. So ending it is kinda of a solution. Well nice work, and it’s good that you gave you’re readers a choice about what ending is best for Alice.

What you could try (if u want) is opening a blog somewere where you’re readers can share about what they did with Alice. Might be cool. After that, I think I would quit too.

  140. 205 StarSarah - TheShenstonLegacy October 14, 2009 at 1:42 pm

roBurky – i am so glad you cleared up which sex you are as for reasons i dont understand – it was really bugging me. Isn’t weird how we have to know these things about people we dont know including their age.

Anyway love love love the story. Will you be doing another one?
    x

  141. 206 Ally October 14, 2009 at 4:48 pm

AWWW I’m Gonna miss Alice and Kev soo much!!
    :(

  142. 207 Xander October 14, 2009 at 5:01 pm

This was probably one of the most moving and heartwrenching short stories I’ve read in a long time. Mad props to you for getting the screenshots, poses and backgrounds so well- they felt so lifelike.

  143. 208 Wrex October 14, 2009 at 8:01 pm

Thank you for doing this. I loved every segment. If you ever decide to do another “experiment” with the Sims, I’m sure everyone here would love to see it. Again, thank you. This was awesome.

  144. 209 Breatheunreal October 14, 2009 at 8:17 pm

    Wow….
I cannot praise this blog enough,
this was an amazing story that i had never even thought of trying to do in the sims.
well done for a fantastic story!!!

  145. 210 Gabs October 14, 2009 at 9:29 pm

I did download Alice and Kev. In my scenario Kev died while Alice was still a teen (he spent so much time in jail I couldn’t keep him fed – oops).

At the current stage of the story Alice is now also long since dead, having died of old age after achieving her lifetime wish of becoming a world renowned surgeon, and raising twin daughters (she married Trigger Broke from down the street).

Right now Alice’s grand-daughter Maria Alice is raising a son while trying to become a creature-robot cross breeder. Alice’s ghost haunts their house, along with several other expired family members.

Anyone else want to share their Alice and Kev stories?

    • 211 Sciffy Circo October 23, 2009 at 7:27 pm

Wait, you got a lifetime wish of world renowned surgeon? I got a wish of surrounded by family. Maybe we started at different points in life? I was doing young adult Alice.

  146. 212 Bonnie October 14, 2009 at 9:29 pm

You have inspired me to finally take a few snaps of my own Sims, carefully controlling the pause button and positioning the camera for the best angles. Editing this must have been time consuming amidst your busy life.

Thank you for taking the time to finish this tale of woe, and of hope.

  147. 213 ♥Mikayla♥ October 14, 2009 at 11:20 pm

Very good story! :( it ended! But, it has too. I hope you will write another sometime. :)

  148. 214 V2Blast October 15, 2009 at 6:33 am

That was an amazingly delivered story. Sad to see Kev go (as much of an ass as he was, he was a main part of the story). Hope Alice recovers and succeeds in life.

I feel a bit emotionally attached to these characters… And that’s not a common thing for me.

    • 215 Leksi Wit October 19, 2009 at 8:42 am

That’s exactly how I feel. How could I be so upset about Kev’s death despite all the horrible things he did? I felt compassion for a freakin’ Sim. This is a first.

Robin, you have powerful narrative skills: Continue to use them for good and you will lead a happy existence – much like Alice – despite your physical circumstances.

  149. 216 westiedog123 October 15, 2009 at 7:50 pm

See i told you! He is was and forevermore be a GUY!!!!!!!!!!! Now on to the real post.

    The pain and sorrow,
    of losing Alice and Kev
    breaks sim loving hearts.

Oh yah, im deep. And now another one!

    Kev kicked the bucket.
    Alice is moving on now.
    We’ll miss you guys.

(cue sad song as readers walk away from this webpage, of joy, happiness, sorrow, anger, and stink trails). T_T

  150. 217 Mallory October 16, 2009 at 12:25 am

I am so sad this has come to end. But it was one of the most touching and amazing sim stories I have read in a long time.

I downloaded Alice as she is now and married her to Zedidais or however you spell it :P
They have 3 little boys :)
They have a nice house and she has a career in culinary :D

    :P

    Alice&Kev live on!

  151. 218 Grendelthered October 16, 2009 at 1:57 am

    can I download Kev instead?

  152. 219 Tonnina October 16, 2009 at 5:19 pm

I just wanted to say what I did with Alice and Kev in my game.

I downloaded them and played them pretty much the same as you, only Kev keep finding these expensive rocks in the garbage (Who throws away rocks?) so I gave them to Alice to keep safe until she was a young adult and could sell them without sharing the money with Kev. After failing many attempts at falling in love with anyone, I had Kev give up on love… or so I thought.

After Alice grew into a very pretty young lady, Alice kicked him out, claiming she was sick of his ridiculing. She sold those rocks, except for the pinkish ones, those were her favorite color! After selling those rocks she had enough money to build a small house. Just enough room for one Sim. Alice had the wish to raise 5 kids from babies to adults. I had her start by changing her traits (she has Great Kisser, Hopeless Romantic, Excitable, Vegetarian, and Flirty) then I had her become fertile so we could get this done in 2 to 3 pregnancies, or so I hoped.

I had her fall for many guys, but never become their girlfriend or wife… She ended up having 1 baby per pregnancy for the first four, and they were all boys. She decided to do the (tormenting) I’m-gonna-name-all-my-babies-names-that-start-with-the-letter-”blank” and used the letter T. The boy’s names are Thomas, Trent, Topher, and Tobby. All her boys were born with in a few days of each other and all of them had different fathers. One was a rock star, one was an unemployed bum, one was her maid, and one was almost a copy of Kev! (he was a mean, grumpy guy)

When Alice had finally seduced her old Paper boy, she had twins, two girls. She named the girls Tiffannie, and Tessa. By this time I noticed a want pop up for Alice “Congratulate Kev”. It seemed he got married (to someone with commitment issues) I was able to see this through Alice’s Family Tree. I like to think Alice was happy that her dad actually found someone who could put up with all his issues. a few in-game days later and I saw that Kev and his new wife had a baby boy together. Alice finally had a brother, granted he was younger than most of her own children.

So this is where I am at. Alice is going to raise her kids and try to make a living on her own. I just hope none of her children are scared the way she went about obtaining her life time wish. it’s a challenge. I’ve never played as a single mom in the Sims before! I enjoyed the story of Alice and Kev very much. I believe I was referred here by Felicia Day from Twitter when you had about 3 stories done. I was hooked from the start. You did a good job!

    • 220 Sciffy Circo October 23, 2009 at 7:40 pm

Wow, yours was the weirdest story I’ve heard so far! Alice with a half brother, LOL! I have seen in real life, siblings who are about 20 years apart. If the first was born when the parents are 18, who’s to say a 38 year old wouldn’t try? Heck, women can probably go till they’re 45 or so (though they may need some help after 35), but men can go pretty much forever. Eek, 58 year old Kev could give Alice a brother 40 years younger!

I could see Alice looking for love in all the wrong places as well, hoping a baby would give her the love she never had. I could see Alice being happy for her dad, and with her Good trait, she’d try to make up with him.

I have yet to see any sims get married on their own. I had one move out, though I can’t see where the heck he moved to. I’ve searched the neighborhood, and it seems he became a townie.

      • 221 Allie October 23, 2009 at 9:18 pm

        Hehehe.

Real life story here – just had to share. My mom was 17 when she had her first child. My dad was 21 when he had his first child. They were 36 and 51 when they met and got married. By the time I was born I had 6 older brothers – the youngest 18 years older and the oldest 34 years older. :)

Why yes, “You’ve Got Mail” has one of the funniest lines in the world for me! :)

  153. 222 limebuddhist October 16, 2009 at 7:05 pm

Jut want to join the hundreds (maybe) who are saying amazing blog, well done. R.I.P. Kev :’-(

  154. 223 ka___ October 16, 2009 at 9:22 pm

Thanks for a wonderful story, you have captured Kev and Al’s lives in a fascinating way!

  155. 224 Ashlyn October 16, 2009 at 11:30 pm

As Alice looks over the horizon on the virge of her new life I hope that everyone can learn from this a new valueable lesson. Things may change people will pass away but life goes on and with that I am very happy to say that in His kingdom things will only get better! Amen

  156. 225 Lis October 17, 2009 at 1:17 pm

I was just linked this story and read it from start to end. Amazing work!

  157. 226 CK October 17, 2009 at 11:47 pm

Hmm, did Zed call Alice in the end, or the other way around…?

I think this is a good place to end things. As much as I’d like to see Alice happy, at least her life is looking up, if not completely better. (Too bad Kev had to die for that to happen…)

I’m going to download them. :) I’m not sure if I’ll play them. Maybe I’ll just stick them in one of my pre-existing neighbourhoods and then drop by on them occasionally. I’m not sure. It’d be cool to just see them around town.

Especially now that you’re done, I think you should put some links up, to other Sims story blogs. You have such a large and loyal readership that simply posting an URL would get any blog hundreds, if not thousands, of views. I don’t know if you already read any Sims blogs, but there are plenty high-quality stories out there in the community that deserve to be seen. You have the power to show them. Yes, I have a personal blog. No, I’m not going to plug my URL here. I just think you have an ability and that you should exercise it, if only a little bit.

  158. 227 Courtney October 18, 2009 at 3:01 am

I actually downloaded Alice as she “Started her own life.”
I did not donate ALL of her money to charity, and she gained a happy enough mood to start a job at City Hall (don’t ask me how it happened, it just did and i’m happy). She’s on level 6 of her job and is soon to get a husband, Styles. She cleaned out all of the weeds in her spare time, and when she had enough money, she bought a bed. And it only went up from there. She now has a home. It may be small… But it’s what she’s always wanted :)

  159. 228 RawkabyeNukeface October 18, 2009 at 3:59 am

That was a great ending. :D I’m certainly going to download her. :) I want to build her a well-deserved future. :)

I’ve been reading this for a while and just wanted to take time tonight to say Thank You. I appreciate you sharing this story with us and allowing us to experience your journey along with Alice and Kev. It was very entertaining and very moving. Thanks again.

  164. 234 ScarletStarz October 18, 2009 at 6:12 pm

Wow.. This was great. I have followed Alice’s heartbreaking story since it started. I feel that i must continue her story. I have downloaded her. As of right now she decided to join the culinary career rack. Shes only on level 2 but is happy. she has fnally found someone that seems to care for her. But alas he doesnt. Alice is pregnant. the only thing that man wanted was her body. She thought he loved her,, heck she was starving for love but he cant give her any. I feel bad for her daughter or son but at least the two will have someone to love…

  165. 235 Miko October 18, 2009 at 10:10 pm

Wow but roburky writes like a woman

  166. 237 Blackflame619 October 18, 2009 at 11:58 pm

This was amazing. Good work. This is the end to a legacy. Good luck alice. and farewell kev. =)

  167. 238 Abstract Jack October 19, 2009 at 4:39 am

That was one of the greatest tales ever told. This ought to be published in a BOOK. Using the Sims’ actual reactions to forward the plot was brilliant by the way.

  168. 239 Bri♥ October 19, 2009 at 6:26 am

I want to say that i loved your story! It was wonderful. I decided to download adult Alice as well and she is now my favorite sim to play. At first i got her some extra cash by finding and selling rocks around town and built her a small home. Then she eventually met a nice man named Christopher Steel and moved in with him, then married him. Now they have 6 beautiful children, 2 sets of twins (2 boys, 2 girls) and a little girl and a boy, named Keith, Wendy, Kelly, Sarah, Ryan, and Kyle. Oddly enough two of them came out with Grey hair, and 1 with blonde hair, despite both of their parents having brown hair.
Alice decided she wanted to quit her job, so she did, then she wanted to join the Police force, so she did that too. Her and her husband are both police officers now. Kev has a little spot out by Alice’s garden and haunts the house from time to time. He mostly just watches TV and sleeps in his oldest grandson’s bed. Since Alice was doing pretty good for herself i changed her Unlucky and Loser traits to Family Oriented and Green Thumb, since she loves to garden and loves her family. I tried to do what you did and just let her chose her own life and she’s doing great. She will become an Elder in a few days and she has 5 toddlers and a child. Don’t know how she is going to manage, but i’m sure she’ll do fine as she is a terrific mother.

Thank you once again for taking your time to write this story. I have been following it since the near beginning and while i am sad to see it end, i am glad that i am able to continue her story.

    Hey,
it’s rogerdodger777, the maker of In His Own World.
I just thought I’d like to mention that my new blog Sims 3 Big Brother is up and running. It’s a bit of light-hearted fun and you get to vote for the winner! check it out at sims3bigbrother.wordpress.com
If the author of the blog doesn’t feel comfortable with me shamelessly advertising my blog here please feel free to delete it… alternatively if they want to add it to their blogroll that would be great!
    Thanks!

Wow, Alice’s father dying really hit me hard. She never got a chance to reconcile with Kev… and he died on that park bench. At least he wasn’t alone. I’m a bit teary eyed, Robin.

  171. 242 lovecoloredglasses October 19, 2009 at 8:55 am

This has been an amazing story. Thanks so much for posting it!

  172. 243 ♥Mikayla♥ October 19, 2009 at 4:10 pm

Hi Everyone! I have a blog that I have been working on for a while now, I have quite a few updates. It’s about a girl named Clair who has a somewhat very interesting life, she does have some big changes. And, I am going to release my new blog soon. But, if anyone is interested, you can click on my name of just go to this link. Either way, it will take you to the same place. :P http://anothersims3story.wordpress.com/2009/07/20/introduction/

  173. 244 Luna October 19, 2009 at 7:54 pm

While many have shamelessly advertised as we all call it, I’ve started a new story that I believe is very ready for the audience it desires.

It is similar to Alice and Kev, but different in many ways. A single father of two kids, they are homeless technically, but are living in an abandoned garage. Jon ended up on Sunset Valley’s shore with his two children in a deflated life raft. He doesn’t remember anything that lead up to the event, and the situation has caused him and his children to become neurotic, along with a ton of other unhelpful traits.

    http://rollingsurf.wordpress.com/

I hope to see you there!

  174. 245 Jael October 19, 2009 at 9:27 pm

I have thoroughly enjoyed this blog. I hope that you decide to write more in the future.

  175. 246 CowyChan October 20, 2009 at 12:29 am

Ow, I found Alice and Kev today… I looooved the whole story… It made me think about my own gameplay… Haha, somehow I’m sure I’m gonna put some more heart the next time I play… Apart from that, it was an excellent “experiment” the one you made… :)
Congratulations, you’ve had us all hitched to Alice and Kev.

  176. 247 Joyce October 20, 2009 at 4:57 am

thanks for the great story, I downloaded Alice and Kev and put them into my town as non playing characters. For a man who disliked children he certainly has been busy producing them with one of the Lin sisters LOL. One of my topics of gossip was my character announcing his engagement and stating “I’m glad its not me.” Gotta love it!

  177. 248 faworthy October 20, 2009 at 7:33 am

Well done dude. Thanks for the blog. It was very interesting, and entertaining. I never thought I’d get pathos from a sims story, but here it is.

    Cheers!

  178. 249 southchiks October 21, 2009 at 4:26 pm

You turned out to be a really weird guy. From disappearing for a month, pretending to be a female, and a crappy ending. Just weird. I suppose it is best you pretended to be a girl, most people won’t criticize a female’s story.

  179. 252 panda October 21, 2009 at 4:39 pm

i almost cried in this story soooo manny times :”) its just so good i cant explain it in words :”D =>.<=

OMG I want to know how you got peeps to land on a life raft! I’ve only gotten asteroids and ghostly friends. Tell me how!!!

    • 254 Luna October 22, 2009 at 12:56 am

It’s not in the game, I just made it a part of the story. I like to make the sims seem a bit more real in my story, even if that means making something up that isn’t part of the game.

  181. 255 me October 21, 2009 at 10:39 pm

  185. 259 roBurky October 23, 2009 at 9:00 am

I’ve figured out what was causing the rogue comments floating to the bottom of the list. Turns out, it’s all my fault.

The site is set to only allow comments to three ‘levels’ of replies. So after someone has replied to another comment, and you reply to that reply, nobody else can reply directly to you. Except it doesn’t prevent me from replying through my admin interface, which creates a comment that can’t be displayed where it is supposed to be, so gets shunted to the end. And then any replies to that comment get put in the same limbo.

I’ve deleted the offending replies again, and made a vow to only reply to comments using the normal page instead of my admin interface in future. Apologies to those that got replies deleted.

  186. 260 Alex October 24, 2009 at 12:21 am

That was great, seriously good. Thank you.

  187. 261 Where have I been! October 25, 2009 at 12:03 am

    This story was simply amazing

  188. 262 Sarah October 25, 2009 at 1:37 am

lovely; you should do another sims 3 story; this was great; it’s inspired me to make my own homeless sims 3 game; quick question; how did you get them to have so little money at the beginning? i’m pretty sure you built a ‘park’ on a vacant lot, but i think you’d have to have used the largest one and spend all their money on plants and such. i’m definitely gonna download alice and see how much of a good life i can give her in my game.

  189. 263 Jenna October 25, 2009 at 5:57 pm

Robin, I would really like to thank you for this story. This might sound sort of odd but whenever I was feeling down in the dumps I went onto this website and read about Alice and Kev. Throughout all of my problems and issues I kept thinking to myself, suck it up Jenna..things could be much worse. There are people out there living this story and I think it’s wonderful that you were able to open the eyes of many people and allow them to connect to this story through a computer game. I really do thank you, and I hope you continue to write other stories as well, you are a very talented writer. I have also decided based on this website to start my own blog, but from sims 2 (personal choice). I wish you much luck and hope in the future. Thank you.

  190. 264 Kevin October 25, 2009 at 9:17 pm

Hmm next post “Alice’s Mom” and a view of the past(which is yet to be created)?

  191. 265 worsiedog October 26, 2009 at 12:33 pm

You are truely an inspiration. I loved your story.

I am sure that you never realised when you first hovered your fingers over the keyboard, the impact your words would leave on a society that went beyond the borders of mere bloggers.

    Well done!

  192. 266 Derek Lee October 28, 2009 at 2:01 am

That was a wonderful story. =] You’re amazing for recording all of it and sharing it with us. Thank you.

  193. 268 Nosferatu October 30, 2009 at 3:01 am

Dang… This made me look at the sims 3 in a whoole new way, you are a great author and I hope you’ll be writing a few stories i’ll be able to buy in the bookshop, you have some real talent!

Afterall, you gave alice her charm, her ‘humanity’ and when reading i could download her and use in my own game, i got a feeling that it be wrong to use her in my neighbourhood…

she’s way too real after reading all this and i really hope you’ll make a sequel

  194. 269 ??? October 30, 2009 at 9:40 pm

I downloaded the two (teenager Alice one) and Kev died… while Alice had 2 children?? (Twins, I guess.) Ouch.

  195. 270 marielle85 October 31, 2009 at 12:02 pm

Poor Alice… I’m baffled at how a game can be used to make such a heartwrenching tale..<3

    D.R.I.P
    Kev Bin Diver
    (dont rest in peace)

  199. 274 Deryk November 2, 2009 at 3:37 pm

Brilliant story Robin! Thanks for all your hard work and determination to see it through to the end. I downloaded Alice and Kev Bindiver. In my alternate reality Kev is not a nice guy at all. He’s even gone back to a life of crime and got a job as a criminal. He hasn’t got caught by the police yet. In his off-time he’s his usual cranky self, insulting people, making trouble, I have him go around and look in people’s windows, rummage through their bins, then kick them over when he’s done.

Sims wake up the next morning dismayed…that yet again their bins have been dumped and trash strewn all over the yard, and that their neighbors are discovering this too; a chore which usually falls upon the children of the families to clean up.

Poor young Alice is always unhappy and in a terrible mood, much like she was as a child in your story. Kev often verbally abuses her. But she tries to make do with sneaking a picnic lunch, taking a dip in the community pool or gym pool and showering after. But sleep for her is uncomfortable on that old park bench. She has been invited over to friends house after school, but no sleepovers yet.

I have extended game time running too (999 days or whatever it is)), so it should be a good long time for them to play.

Anyways, you get the brilliant credit for making such terrific and dynamic Sims. Well done!

PS: And thanks for your making us all aware of homelessness. It’s even rougher for homeless people in northern climates what with Winter setting in. Imagine not having a home when it’s below 0′ (C or F it’s still freezing!)!

      Thanks again Robin!

Amazing. I loved reading this story!

I started your story a long while ago and when you took a break it was a sad day. But this ending was beyond any expectations I could have had. It was so wonderfully amazing. I really enjoyed Alice and Kev.

I just discovered this today and it is truly remarkable how well you have managed to reach out and bring attention to this. I won’t go into a huge political speal here but this has opened my eyes (wider, they were never shut) to people like this in the real world and has made me more interested in helping them. It has also inspired me to do something similair, I probably won’t publish mine though because there won’t be as much drama, but I could see how it would be fun to start with a character like Alice but get her to be one of the richest sims in town. Anyway I do plan on trying to help charities in the future. In this country, if you don’t want to be homeless you shouldn’t be (not blaming them, just that I want to make it more aparent that people can make something for themselves, just a little push from charities :)
Thank you so much for this great tale. Video Games may not be an art but I think you have proven that they are a medium of artistic talent, which you have in great quantities. I’d love to see a different story played out in the sims.

A moving and inspirational story. Very well done.
Long live Alice and Kev. (:

I could only hope my story can live up to yours.

I am so sad to see Alice go but what a way to end it. Her life should be an example to use all. The way she still found hope and security to be kind to others in spite of all she’d been through. And she still treated Kev pretty decently considering everything that went down. Thanks roBurky, for sharing this inspiring story with us all.

    Wonderful story. Thank you.

  210. 287 SparcMan November 10, 2009 at 10:20 am

    Bravo. Great story.
I think what really sells this story is that in many ways it’s so real that it very likely mirrors the life of someone in real life. That being said, to the real-life “Alice and Kev” somewhere out in the world, best of luck to you.
I wonder how much of these events were controlled by you and how much was governed by the character’s personalities…

  211. 288 Catemate November 12, 2009 at 4:10 am

    Bravo, an amazing story :)

  213. 290 Blackwing November 15, 2009 at 5:55 pm

Wow. I read this entire saga for the last two days, it is wonderful.

Kev, I feel sorry for him; I really did wish he could find peace in his life.

And I’m glad Alice could prosper.

  214. 291 Maggie's Mind November 16, 2009 at 4:05 pm

As others have said, this is the first of this kind of story I’ve ever read start to finish. Really amazing job.

    A final goodbye to you.

  219. 296 Ko November 21, 2009 at 9:04 am

Aww, I had forgotten about this over the summer and now I’ve come back to see it ended… Very sad to see it go, but it really wouldn’t be the same without Kev. I think you made the right decision to leave it here, on an odd but uplifting note. Very fitting.

Thanks for the wonderful story. :) If I ever upgrade from TS2 to TS3 I’ll definitely be adding Alice to my neighborhood.

  220. 297 Carson November 21, 2009 at 7:36 pm

Loved the whole story. Although I’m embarrased to admit it…at the end I was a little teared up! It was great. Thanks for that :)

Does anybody else miss this series??

A toast, to everybody’s favorite crazy hobo and his hobo daughter.
    ——————————————————————-
*raises glass of wine* To Kevin Bin Diver, may he rest in pieces.
To Alice, may she and her future husband, whoever he may be, have a long and happy marriage. Theirs is a story whose telling to the masses will be missed, but shall live on in the hard drives and hearts of many a fan. *drinks wine*
    Oooh, now I’m woozy…

  225. 302 ChuChi November 27, 2009 at 4:57 pm

I loved this story!! I wish it wasn’t over but I understand why you did end it. Thanks for giving us the option to download Alice.

  226. 303 Jade November 28, 2009 at 2:11 am

    this is beautiful :)

I just read the whole thing in one sitting – I felt my eyes welling up at some points!

    Thankyou for the Alice download.

I’m tempted to try a homeless family myself in Sims 3, although I’m sure I can’t beat your storyline.

    RIP Kev

A truly lovely and subtly told tale even if it was a few captions and photos. I was moved by it on occasion and I applaud you for telling it.
